Spread betting company city index allows you to short up to £9 a point not sure what that equates to in contract size on the exchange, but imagine it matches to what you say as the spread betting companies have to hedge.

Their spread is 1% which means placing a £1 makes you out of pocket to £1,000 before it moves

Frankly the volatility in this market I would no risk more than a £1 a point trading usd dollar bitcoin

And all that applies to ONE coin.

Yes there is currently a link from bitcoin to the alts as most exchanges go btc to alts... but that can be quickly addressed (already in place on some exchanges).

A total burst bubble of bitcoin will just pave the way for better tech.... the prices would take a few years to grow again... but the tech will carry on.

I wouldn't spread bet for the simple fact it could jump 50% and leave you homeless.

At least 90-95% of alt coins are just ICO vapourware scams. It's fine dabbling if you don't treat it anymore seriously than a roulette table.

Guys can we please keep it simple for the likes of Nick. He won't understand what we're on about. Cheers.

And 5-10% can be world changing. I like that.

If, for instance, substratum had been on Kickstarter... I'd have heavily back them... that i might make some cash is a bonus

i agree, i am not going to trade it....i prefer risk-off trades via the more liquid S&P 500, which i have taken this week once tthe Trump tax bill was passed

That's not what i meant.... i said certain exchanges are now adding other trading pairs usually ethereum.

Coinbase will be adding several more alts in January though... to add to litecoin, ethereum and bitcoin cash. Ripple will be amongst them

What's everyone's opinion, is 2018 the beginning of the end for Bitcoin and/or the other crypo's?

A bit of a rally by ETH, BTC and LTC in the last 45 minutes!

Nick must still be in bed!

Bitcoin?

The rest, I'm still willing to dabble - Blockchain will be huge in one way or another.

that is a reasonable philosophy, but this is a new market, i am not sure that many players fully understand the liquidity risks in these instruments.

sell it on rallies Brummie, it may re try the highs it made this month but unlikely, it is a major sell in my view, mainly because nearly all players are long, but also because many participants don't understand it as it still a new and developing market place

Blockchain is an excellent technology and supermarkets and banks are already leveraging it. Though traditional central ledgers still in many situations have an advantage.

As far as the future of crypto currency goes, it's likely to end out much like a regulated stable PayPal wallet. There will still be a want for anonymous crypto coins for laundering money and avoiding central government capital controls. But the problem is that without an Central Bank death by a thousand alts is the likely outcome

hat's what I tend to do Biggish, buy it when it's low and sell when I've made $100 or so profit and re-invest again - I just got caught out with quite a few open trades, with this latest drop, as it was a bit of a deeper drop than usual

Tip for anyone who wants to make alot of easy money

follow John McAfee on twitter....

He is posting his opinion on one coin a day over the christams season... The last three have already gone to 100%+ and his verge tip has sent it 1000%

It might be pump and dump.. they might be shhhit coins (though I have checked them out and all seem pretty good, on paper)... but you CAN make easy cash.

Again, heard it a million times.

These financial guys are scared stiff of a truly decentralised currency.

Why aren't they shorting it like crazy on the futures market?

If you want to discuss bubbles, lets look at the western capitalism system.
