That’s probably why he plays in the Irish leagues then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah you must know better as he's only a goalkeeper in the Irish league and your e nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gerrard just said the same thing, he could have done better. And he’s in a better position than most don’t you think?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No. Goalkeeper is a specialist position that most if us don't understand. Even being in the lowly Irish league a goalkeeper would know more than a world class ex player like Gerrard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m going to trust the opinion of one of the best players in our history over your random mate from the Irish Sunday Guiness league, but thanks anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that's up to you. Personally I'll side with a goalkeeper as they know about goalkeeping. They know the positions you have to take at a certain point. My mate says that any goalkeeper would have positioned himself off the goal line for a cross to stand a chance of taking the ball.
It might be Pele up against David James but James is going to know more.
Anyhow I thought it was harsh to blame the goalkeeper and that's why I texted a friend to see if I was being stupid. I personally side with him.
You're entitled to side with who you want.

Gerrard has watched keepers train and be coached at the highest level for 20 years.
Just because he’s not a keeper doesn’t mean he doesn’t know what a keeper should be looking to do.
I thought Mig might have done better, but we didn’t really do enough to win anyway.
We know Mig is not a top keeper, it’s not news.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.
Thought Chelsea fully deserved a point (maybe more) be the goal was still a dissaponting one.
At least we didn’t lose when playing poorly in a big game which is a good sign in some ways.
Back to back away games against lower opposition we have to win both.

It's easy to blame the goalkeeper when like myself you know nothing about goalkeeping. Like my mate said, he's set for a cross and suddenly it's looping over him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But it was a cross?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No doubt about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But if he’s set for a cross and the ball is crossed then he should be ok?
Simple fact is he’s not good enough!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He dealt with crosses very well all night. He also made some very good blocks.
You can blame the keeper on other days but not this one in my opinion.
As I said we are always looking for people to blame but we tactically played a good game against a Chelsea side who also played a tactically good game. In the end we were unlucky to draw.
There's nobody to blame.

I can’t remember the name of the guy but the first keeper coach Rafa brought with him used to coach our strikers in one on one situations as he knew what a keeper would be looking to do. Not saying it’s exactly the same but it shows you don’t need to be a specialist in that position to know what you’re talking about.
the more pressing issue for me tonight was the fact that we didn’t freshen things up earlier

Rafa always gets this falling out line. In effect he fell out with the owners at Liverpool, which turned out to be unstandable and then the owners at Inter when they had so many aging players and he wanted to freshen it up. It turned out to be correct too.
People criticise him for Alonso as he wanted Alonso to attend a game when his child was being born, perhaps incorrect in my opinion anyway but Moreno played a game instead of attending the birth of his child and he got criticised and nobody mentioned his loyalty. You can't win with fans.

Lallana was on the side for 5 mins to be fair, the balm just didn’t go out of play.
People always try and blame results on substitutions or lack of, which is far too simplistic. Managers are not puppet masters.
Players ultimately decide games.

He left it to late

They scored I the 87th minute. We're asking for attacking subs when we were winning very deep into the game. When we conceded he made the changes instantly which is what you would expect.

Xalero or something was it? Think he went to Real or Barcelona.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavi Valero i think, him and Rafa had a falling out. Was a real shame as i had a mate who worked in the club back then (nothing majorly high up) but he was very well thought of by everyone at the club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They didn’t fall out!
He went with Benitez to inter and Napoli
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lies, Rafa fell out with everyone and everyone hated working with him and playing for him!!!

If we had de Gea or the Chelsea goalkeeper we would have won the game. This team needs a VVD and a quality goalkeeper and we would challenge for the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think we need more than that to be honest. Lack of midfield depth was shown today, Can missing we struggled to cope physically, Henderson and Milner both really struggled
Keita will help cover the loss of Can in the summer but how much so I’m less certain than others on here, very different players.

Yer, he also took him to Madrid where he’s still the goal keeper coach now

Courtois definitively would have saved that as he's much taller than Mig with a bigger ape index
DDG maybe would have saved it, maybe not

Thought Milner had a poor game.
Not bad to take a point when we had no Can, no firmino, and no Mane on the pitch today though.

You’re correct, that’s weird. I’d heard they’d fallen out.
