If holgate isnt 100% in what he heard he should retract his statement. However if found thaf it that it wasnt he should be punished as he needs to be 100% before making a claim like that damaging a mans rep

He might feel he was 100% but actually misheard. It doesn't matter if that's true or not just that it's a possibility. With it being a possibility you would have to prove it isn't the case, which you can't.

The Suarez case obviously was a damaging PR situation for the club. You can see that from the comments on Ja.

------------

Whilst I enjoy the interaction on this site the suggestion that it in any way reflects on real life opinions of the general public is just nonsensical.

This site is populated by opposition fans who spend most of their time trying to out do or just generally abuse each other.

This includes proclaiming fake outrage and arguing that black is white - (no racist pun intended (but it wouldn't surprise me if someone on here accused me of it ) )

The problem is people are assuming he did say something racist because Suarez was convicted so it must be a problem with our club .. again the press stirs things up and the editor on here if you like “Admin” is doing that very thing ๐Ÿ‘Ž

True. So what should happen is Holgate is given a choice. Press ahead with his claim but if proven wrong he gets a ban.

Newsflash: it is also very possible for Holgate to make up the fact that he heard an “n” word just to try and get Firmino sent off or banned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course. It looked to me like he had a lightbulb moment and thought oh i know what ill say to prevent me getting sent off here....

The problem with this is if he genuinely did believe he was racially abused then giving him a ban could deter others who believe they are abused from reporting it.

No need for the FA to investigate as the Lpool fans have already decided it simply didn't happen.

I've taken this as meaning you think i'm not far of being racist, in which case I stand by my comment.

If as Mr. Chelsea has suggested you are agreeing with the comment regarding the users of JA606 then I apologise of course, I've clearly misread your reply.

I actually feel quite uncomfortable at the idea that Holgate should be punished if the claim is found to be false.

He is effectively a whistle-blower and complaints made in good faith should be investigated but the person reporting something shouldn’t be held accountable if they’re proven to be false!

Could he be maliciously making the accusation? Yeah, it’s possible. But to punish someone for reporting an incident would deter all others from reporting - nobody wants that, it’s totally the wrong message.

If it is a misunderstanding then I hope Holgate would be man enough to publicly apologise but he shouldn’t be punished.

I'm bowing out. All I'm saying is it's great the FA treat the accusations seriously and that Liverpool will no doubt learned lessons from the Suarez situation.

An apology would me a must and should suffice i guess. Cant have fake accusations becoming a thing. It can ruin lives.

I do think being able to dismiss a spurious accusation is as important as validating a true one. I've no horse in this race.

The last bit of my comment was..... '(no racist pun intended (but it wouldn't surprise me if someone on here accused me of it )' .....so when you said ...'You aren't far off. That's for sure'......it sounded like you were saying I wasn't far off being racist.

No, not for one minute. But you seem to believe that his reaction was a way to escape a booking.
