Looks like Canelo is going up to cruiserweight. I've had my issues with Canelo but what he's doing at the moment has to be applauded.

What issues do you have with Canelo ? My only issue with him is that he definitely lost that first fight to Golovkin and yet everyone acts like he's invincible just because he was awarded a charity draw in Vegas.

Canelo going up to cruiser definitely should be applauded although seeing him alongside Makabu wasn't anywhere near as big a size difference as I thought it would be. I doubt Canelo sticks around at cruiser to fight any of the bigger guys in the division after he beats Makabu.

But it's a good chance for him to make history in a one off fight at Cruiserweight

Makabu is 6ft
Canelo is listed as 5ft 9.....but he's never that..more like 5ft 7-5ft 8 imo

Canelo has doped in the past and been caught. He is probably still doping to get up to these weights but probably has a better team behind him to not get caught.

My issues:
1. Robbed Golovkin in the first fight
2. Failed a drug test
3. He beat Cotto for the WBC middleweight title and then fought Khan and then dropped the title, instead of fighting Golovkin, which was the clearest duck ever.
4. Won the WBO light heavyweight title by cherry picking a faded Kovalev. As soon as he won the title, he vacated and went back down.

As I alluded to in my initial comment, what Canelo has been doing recently is legendary. He's fought 4 times within 12 months, which is unheard of, for a PPV start and 3 of those fights have been against champions. Now he is testing himself, by going up to cruiserweight. Unlike his previous cherry picking, this move actually carries tangible danger.

If Canelo beats Makabu, I'd like to see him fight:

1. Bivol
2. Beterbiev
3. Benavidez

Those 3 fights would solidify his status as the greatest fighter of his generation.

I think he's seen an opportunity at cruiserweight to make history, hence why he's chosen Makabu. It will also be useful for him to then cut down to light heavyweight as opposed to dropping all the way back to super middleweight.

As we saw with Roy Jones, fighters aren't always the same when they make these big jumps.

i was thinking about Roy Jones's decline after he started going up and down the weight classes

it facked up his cat like reflexes
given he never learned how to defend conventionally, that's was when he started to take clean punches to the head for the first time
