The UFC and Bellator are promotions in MMA.
A UFC fighter will never fight a Bellator fighter. That's an issue. It's the equivalent of saying a eddie hearn fighter will never fight a frank warren fighter.
Of course boxing has more problems when it comes to making fights but let's not pretend MMA doesn't have the same one.
Can't say I've ever heard anyone say that Bellator fighters not being able to fight UFC fighters is a big issue for them. For starters the UFC generally has the better fighters. And the best Bellator fighters are able to come to the UFC and test themselves like Eddie Alvarez.
Think we're getting off track here anyway. So I'll go back to my original question, is there a long list of big fights that should have happened but didn't, or that happened far too late within the UFC ? Or within Bellator for that matter ? Not as far as I'm aware. And certainly not like in boxing.
Of course it's not a big issue if Bellator and UFC fighters don't fight but the mere fact that one has to leave the other to fight, is a very big issue. Francis Ngannou vacated and left the UFC. Jon Jones is now the HW chMpion. The biggest fight in mma you can make right now is Jon Jones vs Ngannou but it can't be made because Ngannou is not signed to the UFC. That's a problem.
Fights that never happened in mma:
Fedor vs Mir
Fedor vs Couture
Fedor vs Lesnar
GSP vs Silva
Tony vs Khabib
Silva vs Liddell
Nate vs Mcgregor 3
Aldo vs Mcgregor 2
Is there more fights that never got made in boxing than in mma?
Well yes, one sport has been around for only 30 years and the other has been around for more than 100. I don't think a math degree is required here.
Guv I am sorry dude but you are grasping, almost all the big fights get fought in the UFC, and if we move it in to just the last 20 years it's not even comparable. So many big fights never happened for just plain stupid reasons, in UFC it occasionally happens and as Superb said it's for actual reason like scheduling and injuries. Then on the other side you have big fights that are actually made, and all the time in UFC it's champ Vs an actual contender and not a forced bout because the WBC decided the champ should be fight the has-been who is ranked 15th in a sheet division.
"Is there more fights that never got made in boxing than in mma?"
Mayweather probably has a list by himself of ducked fights that dwarfs the list of actual fights that weren't made in the UFC, and I love how you are hanging your coat firmly on Fedor
And Khabib vs Tony Ferguson which undoubtedly would have happened if not for utterly freak injuries and illnesses which stopped the fight happening four or five times. So that definitely can't be used as a valid example in this context either.

Fedor is considered one of the best heavyweights of all time yet we never saw him compete against the best HWs in the UFC. Why is that?

It's not grasping because I've already stated that more fights don't happen in boxing than in mma.
To deny that fights don't happen in the ufc/mma is factually wrong.
I'll say it again.
The biggest fight you can make in mma right now is Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou. Why is this fight not happening?
Because Ngannou left the UFC after not being happy with his contract.

You're missing the point.
Golf, tennis, cricket, football, basketball these are sports where the intention isn't to physically incapacitate your opponent.
What other combat sport are you referring to, because boxing and mma are the biggest and mainstream and both have similar issues of the best not fighting the best. Good luck getting a UFC fighter to fight a Bellator fighter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
its also a sport where your one fight away from it all being over. even outwith the damage you are likely to recieve, but its a sportthat the casual fans are the sometimes the worst for. if a boxer loses he is a "bum" (not even a casual problem tbf) you see it constant on boxing forums.
Just outta curiosity is this the only boxing related sorta forum you guys bother with?

cos the problems i brought up before and will only get worse UFCs problem is that only guys contracted to UFC can fight each other. that wont last forever, UFC will be caught up as more and more different franchises can afford to pay guys more.
This wiill become more of a problem in the future, then it will be case of not just difficult to get a fight made like in boxing under different governing bodies and screening platforms, to impossible for MMA fighters to fight under different franchise banners ie Bellator fighter v a UFC fighter.
then you will get the Pimblett situation were a new guy signs a deal for so many fights and explodes in popularity and then refuses to fight a proper name until that deal runs out and a new one is struck up.

Agreed.
The sport is 30 years old and we are already starting to see the shift towards the boxing problem, of not getting fights made. Another factor is the money. A big reason why boxing fights are not made is the failure to agree on terms surrounding pay. UFC fighters are now realising their worth and you're starting to see guys pushing back.

It's nothing to do with them not being under the same promotion though, more like Ngannou has gone AWOL from MMA and isn't currently in any promotion as he appears to be trying to get into boxing. Last I heard anyway.
Unless you're implying that Ngannou has purposely left the UFC so he doesn't have to fight Jones ? Otherwise not sure what relevance this has to the current discussion.
