A step for step live action remake of the Killing Joke with Joaquin's Joker would be awesome
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't consider Joaquin's Joker to be anywhere near intelligent or purposefully sadistic enough to concoct the torture on Gordon he does in that movie.

He is more like a mumbling alt-right school shooter than a criminal mastermind, his danger is his incoherent randomness.

Joker is also incompetent and bumbling at the start of the story

That why his portrayal fits the closest

He becomes more competent as he embraces the madness

Killing Joke? I need to re-read it clearly, but I recall him being pretty with-it compared to Joaquin's Joker.

I just don't think he would ever be that invested in tormenting someone, he is way too random.

One reason why I don't like that movie very much, Joaquin never feels like the joker in that movie.

Interesting trailer. I liked the first one better.

This is a very different take on Batman. It looks a lot darker and psychological, almost like a crime thriller. I think it will be a good movie but I don't feel like it's Batman. Pattisons portrayal seems less heroic than the others but maybe more damaged mentally.

batman is mentally damaged atleast hes meant to be, guy dresses up like a bat ffs

Yeah hes like a run down married dude who failed to make it as a stand up comic and goes to the mob for money and they force him to steal stuff

My only beef is I prefer a more stylised aesthetic to the earthy, grubby look they are going for but that's subjective.

True, but he wasn't some mumblecore guy who could slapped over by a sign.

I guess more with it than Joker's Joker as he didnt have mental problems before falling into the chemicals but not exactly criminal mastermind level

finally actually finished the trailer, wish i hadnt seen the last part with penguin, might skip any future trailers

I agree, you're right he was more deranged than I remember and Phillips' clearly borrowed elements of that story for his movie.

I sort of find the idea of mental problems holding back a potential criminal genius more believable than normal dude down on his luck falls into vat of chemicals and becomes genius criminal

I actually think 'no origins at all' is the best way to explain the Joker. He is just there. A force of nature.

Unexplained agent of chaos

I suspect the first Batman movie will see Pattison battle through a tornado of emotions and he will be unstable throughout the movie, whilst the Riddler toys with him. I think we will see a more familiar Batman at the end of this movie, once he has overcome his demons and Riddler.

This was the biggest pushback i saw from fans before Joker came out. That a backstory ruins the character

I would say though that both A Killing Joke and now the Joker film are both well received works so its not a disaster necessarily when they try doing a backstory

best Joker ever man, and Bale is the best Batman for me. Everything is just downhill from there, but Nolan is a genius. I hope Patterson proves me wrong.

I guess it just tracked with me for whatever reason

Phillips' Joker was a man that was told he needed to be cured, that he was ill and he should fight his mental illness. The incompetent, weak man was a product of him fighting it.

But as he stops taking his meds and embraces his insanity he stops being miserable, stops stuttering and becomes more dangerous

Bale was excellent but Patterson was poor.

I hope Pattinson will be better

That sounds great on paper.

My problem as a film snob is I kept thinking of Taxi Driver, which is much better as a movie.
