And we continue our worrying trend of being nearly men.

Very good test but India bottled it. 1 man batting team.

Batsmen really need to step up this series. Can’t have Kohli do all it by himself. England are nothing special even at home.

Both teams poor with the bat, England marginally better. Only one substantial top order partnership in the game between Root and Bairstow in the 1st innings and that’s probably won it.

Root with Jennings and then with Bairstow were both good partnerships.

Great win for England, we are going to miss Stokes in the next one, very underrated with the ball if overrated with the bat.

Told you India had zero chance of scoring the 80 odd runs. Public getting seriously cheated by teams that are playing test cricket like one day matches. Test cricket is finished. May as well have three days tests now, say 50 overs an innings. There simply are so few, if any, players capable of playing Test cricket as it should be played.

England cant bat and India cant bat in England. Nothing changes.
India have never won more than a 3 test match series away to England/Aus/Sa.
If India lose at Lords it could go pretty pear shaped for the Indians for the rest of the series.

you do know teams have crumbled in 4th innings chases for decades now, nothing to do with test cricket dying, the averages of the best batsmen in this era are just as good as the top players from 20.30,40years ago, the game has just evolved to one where naturally if you play a little quicker you make the risk of getting out slightly higher, do you want to see a 90 over day where 2 wickets are lost and a team scores 180runs or rather see a team score 350runs in a day and lose 7/8 wickets? I know which I would prefer

I still laugh at the poll they had on the bbc about this India team, being one of the best teams off all time..
Not having a go at India (England are garbage) But if India seriously want to be up there with the west-indies and Australia's of the Past,. they need to comeback and win this series and win in Australia next time they are there..

Anyway a mention for the groundsman.. the pitch helped the bowlers..

England have a slightly better batting line up with tail much stronger than india’s. Bhuvi would have given India some parity with his batting ability.

India can’t win away matches consistently with this batting. Need to change. Likes of Vijay, dhawan, pujara, rahane and Rahul don’t have the technique to battle it out.

This England batting has to be one of the weakest I have seen in recent times and if India can’t outbat them then they don’t deserve to win.

3 of these england players got into englands greatest ever team poll as well so eng should have steam rolled them really

There was a stat on sky sports yesterday that India have won only 6 test matches in England since 1932... won’t get a better chance than that. England have a habit of starting series slowly.. don’t expect them to be as bad going forward.

Great win! Credit to the bowlers, who once again got the batsman out of trouble. Malan and Cook under huge pressure now surely... Great to go 1-0 up though, pitch will be flat at Lords!

Malan has to go, replace with bell. Would have said Livingstone but he's broke his thumb.porter for stokes then moeen for rashid to balance the side. India seem to have more issues with their batting than England.

Agreed with Afridi. England will only get stronger from here. And if Kohli has a bad test, this will be very bleak for India. We will struggle to get to 100.

Teams often crumble on the fifth day of a test match, not batting last on the 3rd day, and barely going an hour into the 4th day. Just very poor test cricket. Over two days to get 180, and they barely last a session.

Test teams are getting bowled out in single sessions these days. Something seriously, seriously wrong with the modern Test matches.

Well if you want mickey mouse cricket, then I suppose it has. But if I was paying say £50 for a days cricket, I don`t want it ended after 50 minutes. Just saying.

There is more to cricket then just watching a six hit slog for an hour or so. Cricket has been severely watered down. In ten years time I suppose punters will be paying for one over cricket.

My biggest issue with test cricket is how much home advantage counts. It's becoming pretty rare for away teams to win a test series and that needs to change. But anyone who thinks the excitement of test cricket is dead is wrong IMO. I'd say, when it at it's best, it's the best format of the game by far.

Sandy is as clueless about cricket as he is about football I see.

How can you say test cricket is dying out after that? Brilliant test to watch for both sets of fans and the neutral.

Stupid senile crusty old Wanchor, fack off.

Are the powers that be actually trying to kill test cricket. Less than a session of play at the weekend is shocking.

That’s down to the fact some moron decided to start the test match on a Wednesday. Has nothing to do with test cricket itself.
