The same players that don't perform for England seem to make the runs at county level.
Huge gap in quality by the looks of it between county and international.
Stoneman made a century today, couldn't do it for England.
Ballance, Vince, Moeen, Lyth are the consistent run scorers at county level

its amazing how many chances that 100 has given jennings, if that was a zero as well he would be long gone by now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They said on BBC that he averages just 17 since that 100.
Still baffled they brought him back after he failed the first time, his average in county is only 34.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. It doesn't make sense on any level. At least with someone like James Vince you can argue he's got a (slightly) higher average and no obvious technical flaws, just a propensity to drive at wide balls.
With Jennings, he doesn't tick any boxes. Crap average, crap technique, crap mentality, crap form, crap face. The flaws in his game are just so blindingly obvious - why on earth would the selectors think he'd suddenly overcome them when stepping up a level?
He was absolutely nowhere near the best candidate first time round, and this time round he shouldn't even have been in the discussion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The selectors seem determined to only pick players averaging 30's in county for some strange reason. Stoneman, Jennings, Malan, lyth etc. all averaging mid 30's when picked.
If that was the best county had to offer then fair enough but we have the likes of Burns, Hildreth, Clarke, Livingstone all averaging in the 40's and they've not had a sniff. Hildreth has 43 hundreds in first class ffs
Hildreth and Burns are two of the most consistent run-scorers in the county championship, and have been for years. Their games are both built on solid technique.
Stoneman and Lyth were both in good nick when called up, but both have serious technical deficiencies. Stoneman couldn't handle the Aussies' pace at home (though, to be fair, nor could any of our batsmen, and he still averages 27 for England despite no tons). Lyth was constantly nicking off, which should've been obvious from his county days, and has gone steeply downhill since being dropped.
Ballance has massive technical flaws that the top bowlers will expose all day long. Again, obvious from his prior Test experience. He gets away with it at county level, but he clearly doesn't have the game for Tests.
Vince has the technique but not the mentality. Again, just the same at county level. Lots of pretty-but-short-lived 20s and 30s with the occasional big score. No consistency. Again, obvious flaws that will be exploited at Test level.
Moeen isn't a top order bat. He's not good enough as a spinner at Test level and he's a decent lower-middle-order dasher who gives his wicket away cheaply. Been shown time and time again, yet he's always seen as the answer.
England need to look further afield than these usual suspects who score a few runs at county level but very clearly aren't equipped to handle Test-class bowlers. Burns and Hildreth would be a good start, but the selectors have to look at technique and mentality (i.e. potential for Test level) as much as at weight of runs.

Chuck Northeast in that list too. Lawrence is a talent too although struggling this season.
Lovely shot from Moeen but at 145/6 you should not be dancing down the track and lofting the spinner for 6.

I get it. But it's always the way. We lose early wickets so we go on the counter and that's why we collapse as often as we do. Sometimes it works but it's why we see these pathetic performances so often.
Moeen now gone playing a sweep shot to a ball that was too short to sweep.
& that ladies and gents is why Moeen Ali is never going to be a top player - lack of brain cells.
