Andrew Samson on BBC:
"This is England's 15th innings of the summer and they haven't got to 400 yet. The last time they got 400 was in Melbourne in December and Cook got 244 of those."
Jesus wept, how are the ECB not seeing there's a problem here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, we would have got 400 at Trent Bridge if we didn't declare so errr 1 in 15.
Noteworthy that the only young player we took a chance on has been continually solid

How is ramprakash still batting coach....what does he do
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't worry Keaton, it was a good ball lad. Unlucky Rooty, couldn't have done anything different. Jonny, can't be easy with your finger mate. ALI! You're a legend mate, the runs will come. Jos, you're so talented. Stokesy, well done on the not guilty verdict. Mo, love that 6 mate.
Ollie Pope wasn't especially solid to be fair.
Curran looks the part though, and his speeds are up this summer too

The poster child for mental inadequacy at Test level is, surprisingly enough, presiding over a team of mentally inadequate Test batsmen
Who'd-a-thunk it
Curran's average is up to almost 50 I think. Helped by this not out innings of course.
29 extras this innings. Sort it out lads.

Chuck Northeast in that list too. Lawrence is a talent too although struggling this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Northeast's form ain't great either
In any case, all these bats - Hildreth, Northeast, Clarke, Livingston - bat at 4 or even 5. We're already having to force Root out of that position because we don't have a 3. We're inundated with middle order bats.
Obviously we need a 2 as well, but I'm just assuming that sooner or later the selectors have to stop ignoring Burns
Rob key on the climbing wall....could be carnage
Well done Curran. ..quality
Those extra 40-60 runs killed India's hopes in earlier test match, an extra 70 odd runs today is going to kill hopes for this test match.

He made it...
Scott Borthwick, there's a forgotten man. Got a few runs this summer but never really scored the massive weight of runs required to be noticed. Bats at 3 and averages 37 though, so he'll be expecting a call from Ed Smith
We could seriously make it to stumps now....
But I doubt it

That is why I say it is all one day cricket these days. Test teams of old, would never have allowed the tail to wag like it does in the modern game, most tails would be lucky to have got 30 between them, the modern test tails sometimes put together 150s. Tail enders of old would never have been smashing sixes everywhere.

Get him back in at 3
Just watch Curran get bumped up to 4 now
I don't know what the answer is at our top order...they're all potentially good enough...I wonder about Cooks ambition now and captaincy doesn't suit Root...but ffs they are both class in principle
India will be a bit miffed with this mini fight back here...they'd have hoped to have been in bat and banged 60-70 runs on now...
Still their day though....poor from us mainly
Curran is our top scorer in the series despite missing the last test
Tail wagged for England and put them right back in it.
India done well to not lose any wickets.
India's Day
England must be happy with the final total considering the situation they were in.
All to play for, 1st session will be telling tommorrow.
A good start for India and it could be a looong day for England
