Ishant obviously injured after his work load in these five Tests. We haven't rotated our seamers well at all in this series which in a gruelling 5 match you need to do. Plus losing Bhuvi to injury was a huge blow with the way he gets the ball to move. The pre-planning of this tour has been non-existent from an Indian perspective. Shastri basically stealing a living.

Would love to see Buttler on next

He's score 86 runs today. Root has scored 79.

This exact post could be made about England before every away series. Obviously substituting names as appropriate.

I could possibly see Cook reversing his decision next year after he's had a winter off watching us get tonked around Sri Lanka, y'know

Seems unlikely, Cook will get a nice cushty job at Sky commentating, he will much prefer onlooking.

Yeah, wishful thinking without a shadow of a doubt. Nice thought though

Cook's going to carry on playing for Essex though so he won't be doing any full time commentary for a few years yet if he does go down that route.

Different day, different pitch etc etc, I know...

...but how bad does this make Keaton Jennings look

Cooks funny shape chin is not for TV. Looking more like a radio gig for him.

Cook to take the Tests from Bayliss maybe?

How dare you. He's a fine-looking gentleman, even with his weirdly oblong face.

Heard he's still going on the Sri Lanka tour though...

Yeah, Ed Smith doesn't want us going with two brand-new openers.

Because two brand-new openers is definitely worse than one brand new opener and one bloke who doesn't know which way round to hold his bat.

And let's not mention the number of opportunities there have been in this series to bring in a new opener and let him gain some experience before Cook goes. There's been a spot at 3 for the whole series, and Rashid's selection has been broadly pointless. Could easily have brought in a new opener and let them get going at 3, or even moved Jennings or Cook down to 3 and let the new guy get some games under his belt.

Whatever. I'm bored of repeating myself now so I can only imagine other people are even more so.

Two new blokes is the way to go. Gives both a fresh start with no baggage and neither will have Cook standing at the other end and thinking "hope I'm the one who finally fills the boots as Cook's partner". Both can help each other and know that a few good opening stands of 40 to 50 will give both time even if both get out a few times in the 20-30s.

Completely agree. Continuity is only a good thing when there's something good to continue.

I think the other reason they're keeping Jennings is because he is supposedly a good player of spin and made a century in Mumbai.

Would have personally gone with the Surrey openers, you've got to reward the players fighting hard in county cricket.

Not sure Stoneman's form has been good enough to justify a recall. Majority of Surrey's runs this summer have come from Burns, Pope and Foakes, with contributions here and there from Borthwick and Elgar. Stoneman has been dibbling along at under 30.
