If Son and Kane are both out then we are thin for sure. Espeically with Lamela injured 80% of the time.
With no Dembele in CM i worry too and he wont be able to play every game. Most of us are in agreement we only need 2 signings if the core 20 players stay together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Giroud and Morata are injured Chelsea are short.
If Firmino is injured then Liverpool are short.
If Lacazette and Aubameyang are injured Arsenal are short.
If Jesus and Aguero are injured City are short.
Etc etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fair point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t agree, the point literally emphasises that we are the only team without a reliable back up striker (can argue about Sturridge tbf)
We only have two reliable midfielders whereas every other team bar Arsenal have more.

B Team:
—————Vorm
Aurier-Sanchez-Foyth-Davies
——Wanyama-Winks
Sissoko-Lamela-Moura
————Llorente
It’s not exactly bad is it. Consider United’s back up defence of Darmian-Lindelof-Jones-Young. Or Liverpool’s back up attack of Shaqiri-Sturridge-Lallana. Our squad is deep enough and fans who say otherwise are just looking for an excuse to dismiss Spurs as title challengers.
Kane got injured last year and we still won every game, including Chelsea away. A front 3 of Son/Moura/Lamela did absolutely fine without Kane, although obviously ANY team without their best player will see a drop in quality.
Such a lazy argument - if Liverpool lost Salah they might struggle. If Chelsea lost Hazard they might struggle. If United lost Lukaku they might... do better
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep enough for what exactly?
Top 4? Yes
A league or cup win? History says no, and you haven't made any mew signings to help change that opinion.
Like i said, you're relying on pure blind faith that those players might do better this season.
Deep enough to challenge for the title and cups. That squad was definitely good enough to win the FA Cup last year, but football is a game of fine margins and we came up a little short. We achieved 86 points with almost that same squad two years ago, which in most years is not far off a title.
‘Haven’t made any new signings’. Moura, Toby, Wanyama and Rose are top class players and didn’t feature much last season.
And I do have faith that players like Trippier, Alli and Kane will do better this season. It’s not just about buying shiny toys but developing what you have, and those players (and others) have the potential to improve rapidly.
Any more questions?
I'd still say you're one light in defence, cm and a back up to Kane but that one is obviously harder to find.
Your 4th choice CB is a 20 year old with just 17 professional appearances, you have two injury prone players in cm so you reguly have sissoko on the bench and llorente was woeful last season.
I don’t think anyone has ever said we have a squad thin in terms of quality, however plenty of people have said that about the quality. For me the questionable (or just plain not good enough) members of our squad are:
Dembele - we know he’s got the quality, we also all know he struggles with the frequency and intensity of football at this level.
Rose - Better than Davies on his day, can he bring those days back?
Lamela - Remains to be seen if he can resurrect that 15/16 form.
Winks - Was no more than decent when he was fit, and he’s not been properly for a consistent period in about 18 months.
Foyth - Seen far too little of him to judge
Gazzaniga - See above
Walker-Peters - Just copy and paste my verdict on Foyth
Sissoko - Not good enough. No debate to be had.
Llorente -
So out of 24 (?) players, there’s about 16 we’d all say without hesitation there are no fitness or ability doubts or concerns. Yep that’s not enough strength in-depth to compete on all fronts IMO.

I agree actually that it's a bit of a lazy stereotype bandied about by opposition fans without them giving it any actual thought
However, in some senses they are right when it comes to the unreliability of fitness of the likes of Lamela, Rose, Dembele and Wanyama
Other teams have these issues though, it's not unique to Spurs. Yet their squads aren't analysed in detail when it comes to this
Barring City who have a freakishly good squad:
Utd back up to Lukaku is Rashford/Martial. Are they better than Son? No
Chelsea back up to Morata is Giroud. Is he better than Son? A lot of people would say he is as a striker but for me he wouldn't suit our type of football at all, and that applies to Sarri's system too
Arsenal's back up is Lacazette which is good, granted
Liverpool's back up is Sturridge who is even more injury prone than anybody we have
I could probably do similar for other positions but you get my point
For me, the difference between us and the teams who go on to win the league is mainly a bit of extra star quality, rather than squad depth, although our squad depth was worse a couple seasons back. Hopefully Lucas can really add something there
I am fed up with hearing about the lack of depth in Spurs squad. You do not finish top three, three seasons running ifUFOu have no squad depth. All the other teams, whom apparently have better depth than Spurs, have finished out of the top four at least once, some more than once in the past three or four seasons.

We don't need 25 top players to do well, we need a core of 17/18 who stay relatively fit, plus some filler.
Lloris
Davies
Rose
Jan
Toby
Sanchez
Trippier
Aurier
Dier
Wanyama
Winks
Lamela
Eriksen
Alli
Son
Moura
Kane
That is 17 I am happy with, and who you could see as starters at any given point.
It is not far off at all. Replace Sissoko and Llorente with better and it is pretty much bang on.
You can put a * against Jan for left back too. in a 442 anyway. And I suppose one against Davies for centre back too.
Which in my book, leaves us JUST enough in defence to feel comfortable.
Lose Toby though and it's a very different picture.

18 then. It was getting late!
It is a very strong group of 18.
Vorm, Foyth, KWP, Sissoko, GKN, Llorente are a step down from that, but not many clubs have amazing players 19+ I guess
Let's be honest - striker is the big issue here.
Son is not an adequate replacement for any significant period of time and I'm gobsmacked that you didn't bring someone in over the summer.
Of course, time will tell who is right and Poch has proven a lot of people wrong (including me) over previous years.

Etc etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fair point.

I don’t agree, the point literally emphasises that we are the only team without a reliable back up striker (can argue about Sturridge tbf)
We only have two reliable midfielders whereas every other team bar Arsenal have more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Son is definitely a reliable back up striker. His record as a striker is very solid for us.

We don't need 25 top players to do well, we need a core of 17/18 who stay relatively fit, plus some filler.
Lloris
Davies
Rose
Jan
Toby
Sanchez
Trippier
Aurier
Dier
Wanyama
Winks
Lamela
Eriksen
Alli
Son
Moura
Kane
That is 17 I am happy with, and who you could see as starters at any given point.
It is not far off at all. Replace Sissoko and Llorente with better and it is pretty much bang on.

no love for dembele ?

Reason I didn’t count him is because he is a starter in our usual first choice XI

Well, with such a well constructed argument, clearly you win this particular debate.
