You're right Rameses, Bennett's done very well. There were some who were far too quick to write him off, and they so hate that he seems to be proving them wrong that they are still trying to blame his good performances on the opposition. Fans are funny sometimes, aren't they?
Whatever mediocre performances Hughes put in, we and Derby County knew his pedigree and that he undoubtedly was an outstanding talent. So the club and most fans should have believed in him and his potential. I suppose the answer to my original question is - Because GR just did not appreciate what most of us could see. So he let him go cheaply.
I see Rameses is changing the subject! I'm very pleased Bennett is doing well under FL, but he has struggled much more than Will has ever done. How many failed loans did he have and how long has he been in the shadows? (no Hank Marvin jokes)
Will Hughes is 10 times better than Bennett, but I like them both and wish them the best.
PS I've got a bet on Will playing for England and I can't wait. I was hoping for a few injuries in the squad, but only the ineffectual Sterling has dropped out. Surely Delph or Lallana or Loftus-Road have a tight hamstring or something.
I think Bennett is better than that VC. I don't argue with anything else you said in your post but "10 times". I dont think so!.
Surprised he’s not been picked already as the talent pool is quite small.
Bennett too for that matter. He’s totally awesome.
Hughes may well get a call up soon and i’ll Be happy to see it because we’ve all seen him grow up. I will not be shaken from my view that he had two poor seasons for us before being told and agree that form is temporary and class is permanent so hoping he goes on to fulfil his potential because he wasn’t doing it at Derby.
Bennett has scored 1 in 35 for us and as yet none this season. Two assists do not make a summer so I will wait to see how Bennett progresses this season before getting my old lad out for a play. Unlike Vidal who has shot his wad already.
Not at all, Rameses. I have merely stated that he has done very well so far this season.
There is nothing worse in this life than confessing we have got something wrong, and it is hilarious to watch people tie themselves up in knots trying to find some alternative explanation for their fallibility.

Yes I think it's called hyperbole.

Thanks for that but I already knew.
I was sad to see Hughes go but wished him well. I didn't think we could stand in his way any longer.
I haven’t confessed to getting anything wrong Vidal.
As we all know it’s about opinions.
Jury is still out on Bennett and has been for 7 years. What they are taking their time about is beyond me.
Hughes was poor for his last two seasons for us.
Just because I don’t agree with the Will Hughes fan club or the Mason Bennett appreciation society doesn’t make my opinion any less valid.
Rameses, you kept telling us Hughes was poor over the last two seasons but I didn't notice. I might have been too busy admiring the way he passed the ball to people in the same coloured shirt, made himself available to receive passes and challenged much bigger men in midfield.
Mason Bennett is still young enough, England legend Tom Finney didn't make his first team debut until 24. Frank likes him anyway. He has already made us 4 points better off.
Spart you noted that I have said it’s about opinions. I don’t wish Will anything but success but the bloke you describe as Will Hughes was the one from 2014 not 2016/17.
No, you are entitled to your skepticism Rameses. There's nothing wrong with a bit of that. But I've seen some good things recently in Bennett and Frank says he has "fallen in love with him". I believe Frank will bring him on no end, and I now see GR wasn't capable of doing that, Just reasons to be optimistic after last season's rut. And I don't mean that in any stag and hind sense.
The OP asked why he was valued so poorly. I recall Liverpool and £15m mentioned in 2014.
Can the Will Hughes Fan Club please explain why only Watford were interested at bargain basement money if he had progressed and not regressed?
"I haven’t confessed to getting anything wrong Vidal."
That was sort of my point.

Same reason as Mahrez was signed by Leicester for peanuts, and someone paid ridiculous money for Oliver Burke. So called experts are as poor at recognising talent as the rest of us.

For what its worth ... in my opinion, Will's final games for us saw him playing at a level well below what he was capable of when fully fit, which he clearly wasn't.
In spite of this, he was equally clearly the most naturally talented player on the pitch and one we should have been building our team around rather than telling him there was no place for him.
We sold him for what he was worth at the time because there we doubts about him regaining full fitness. He has now done that and a major part of Watford's team.
What has been overlooked is he fact that ‘allegedly’ Hughes asked to leave and at the time we didn’t have clubs queuing up to sign him, we accepted not only the best, but the only offer for him. And at the time I think Mel was juggling the finances to keep us within FFP (albeit due to some questionable fee’s paid for some questionable players.)
What I’d like to know is if Will has a clause in his deal meaning they pay us more if he gets an international call up.
Good luck to the lad, he is more suited to the prem with time on the ball than being cythed down every 10 mins in the championship.
We’ll get money if he plays more that a certain amount of games for Watford and more money if he gets a full England cap.
Mel’s no mug he may not have got a lot of money up front but he’ll have got the add ons covered.
Hughes did loose his way a bit. He was holding onto the ball for too long and getting robbed of possession. He wasn't improving under Rowett. He didn't walk into the first team at Watford either, he has been coached into a better player. He undoubtedly has the technical ability and that is now showing. It would have been great if we could have kept him and developed him ourselves and that is the cross that Gary has to carry.

He was still poor under Maclaren2 and he knew how to play him.
Could, might, would’ve? He wasn’t doing it for us simple.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give it up Rameses you're embarrasing yourself. Everybody with eyes could see Will was a cut above.
Did you see the Leicester cup game under Mac 2 as an example of this?
Hughes did not ask to leave, tommo, Rowett told him he would be getting very little game time if he stayed at Derby.
