Unbelievable Chris.
You should of seen me playing for Millburn Primary School in the final of the Coleraine Schools Cup. I was outstanding. I even got my name in the paper. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep that kind of standard up and my value dropped.
That was Hughes only good game that season. Stop cherry picking.
In his last year he struggled to hold down a first team place. I have never said he didn’t have quality. But if he couldn’t hold down a place and as you all say he was far and away the best player on the pitch. How the fook do you square that circle.
Rameses - you probably need to re-read a few of the posts re fitness and natural talent.
Will had one but not the other - you probably lacked both and had 1 flukey game.

Hughes did not ask to leave, tommo, Rowett told him he would be getting very little game time if he stayed at Derby.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was stated at the time and I want to say it was on radio Derby but can’t remember, that Hughes asked to leave after we had failed to get promoted again.
Hughes said GR left him in no doubt there was nothing for him at Derby. He said he had no option but to go. As I asked - why did GR vale him so little.
On the subject of players "worth", anyone know what's the latest gossip in the MM v's Sam Rush affair?
Will was going backwards here. Watford took a gamble on him, for a long time it looked like he wouldn't make it there and might end up back in the Championship.
Took them a long time to train him into the player they wanted, and start to get the best out of him. I don't think this would have happened if he had stayed here.
I think GR had seen that even, but didn't have the staff around him, or command of his players to actually improve the situation.
More accurate to say Will went backwards under Gary Rowatt surely.
Nah, I felt he was going downhill, or at least not improving at the level you'd expect even before that. Gary just pushed the problem to the side because he had no way of dealing with it.
I suspect there were elements of him thinking he was already one of the best players at the club and didn't need to, when really he wasn't, and it took the reality check of being at Watford and not even getting close to the first team of an average premiership club to help fix that.
Look at it this way, if we had sold Will "at the height of his powers" to someone desperate for a tricky but lightweight midfielder in the same way that we got rid of Rowett, he'd have gone for £30M
There was no way he was going down hill. He was at the height of his innate ability. Experience will improve him but after that it is about motivation and tactical usage. That was mostly down to his manager. Not totally (players have to motivate themselves) - but mostly so. Any apparent turndown at this stage of a career is not loss of ability.

No such luck for Scotty Carson VC, theyv'e just called up the Fulham keeper, even though he's only played in two games this season, (he plays in the Premiership you know).
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45413352
He's even played for Accrington Stanley no less.
Can't believe they have called up Bettinnellii.
I've no faith in GS, I think we were overrated at the World Cup. Why is Welbeck in the squad, he wouldn't get in Rochdale's team.
Will . Will . Will
What did I say about Gareth Southgate earlier.
We were crap at the world cup but lucky with the draw and Southgate is dining out on that.
Absolutely concur with Spart and VC on the appraisal of England at the world cup.
We didn't beat a side ranked above us.
Total failure considering the way the draw opened up for us as I recall saying at the time.
Rowett and Southgate are basically two cheeks of the same ar$e.
It's nice that we are all agreeing at last.
I don't know why lallana was anywhere near the squad with only 3 minutes of game time for Liverpool this season. Same with Fabian delph.

Your answer is in your post Harps, (clue north west city, starts with an "L" and also has the letters "iverpool" included.
It's ridiculous and why I don't care about or watch England matches. Pick players on merit and form, not someone who hasn't kicked a competitive ball in anger just because they play for one of the big boys, not someone who is in the second division and has better goalkeepers than him in that division, let alone the one above.
Does anyone know of any player that has ever "pulled-out" of the Euros or World Cup finals ....................?
No thought not. And if they are not 100% fit (and hiding it), this is when they really do a disservice to the country.
Also thought England were shocking at the World Cup, didn't understand the praise.
Various faces trying to place the racism card of criticism of Sterling is embarrassing too, nothing to do with race, he simply wasn't very good.
On the world stage England continue to look like a lower Championship / League One side in the cup, if they get a good draw they'll get through a few rounds then be found out and sent home. Most of the players aren't good enough, or aren't playing enough football, and usually they're not playing enough football because they're not good enough at their clubs, but don't want to take a step down the leagues in case they get found out here too and end up with nothing.
We'd have better players if they were willing to take that step, and if being on the books of a big club didn't guarantee selection.
Rooney being out of the squad was about the only positive I could take from the WC, because trying to build a team around fitting in an aging player who clearly wasn't even close to the level required was just painful. At least with a focus on youth there is a chance of things improving, but the players need to help themselves, and they're not going to do that if they keep getting selected based on who they play for, not the actual skills they have.
I always remember this from Rodney Marsh when playing for England under Ramsey. I’m sure many of you have heard it but for those who haven’t:
“The thing you have to remember is that Alf Ramsey and I came from the same place. We were both cockneys. The other thing is that Alf tended to speak in a very poncey plum-in-the-mouth way. It was all "Oh hello Rodney and how are you?". To me it was all complete boIlocks. The last time I was picked by him for England we had a team talk before the game and Alf told me we all had to work harder. "Rodney you in particular," he said in his accent. Then he said: "if you don't work hard I'm going to pull you off at half time." And I said: "Christ, at Man City all we get is a cup of tea and an orange."
Well I thought we did OK at the World Cup. Croatia are a very good team and had a bit of luck gone their way they might have won the whole thing. Had Kane taken his chance we would have reached the final. There were plenty of positives. We lack creativity in midfield and a viable alternative to Kane. We always denigrate countries that we beat but both Sweden and Colombia are decent teams. Croatia struggled harder to beat lesser teams than those two on their way to the semi-final. The style of play was much better and holds out hope for the future. There are a lot of good young players around like Mason Mount and many of the existing squad should improve. I didn’t rate Southgate at all but I have to say he has done far better than I expected. The test now will be to build on the Workd Cup and get to the point where we regularly challenge in major tournaments. I don’t really get the need to continually criticise the national team, maybe it’s more to do with people not feeling all that patriotic and preferring club to country. There are plenty of things in England and in Britain to feel ashamed about but the footy team isn’t one of them at the moment.
