Hopefully these sort of referendums will never again take place.
---------
Go live in North Korea if you're not happy

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A truly stupid statement to make. In democracy, dissent is accepted. You sound like a North Korean
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Err excuse me, I'm not the one who wants to do away with democracy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But (correct me if I’m wrong) you seem to be happy to accept an outcome that delivers not a *single* thing which was promised during the referendum?

His position is not to have stupid referendums

This is what I cannot get my head around mate.

I will correct you, I was responding to someone who wants (in his own words) to stop the public right to vote, and hopes this country goes down the pan to spite these people, all because he didn't get the outcome he wanted

Redinthehead / MUDD:

I agree with a lot of what you're both saying. Personally people on both sides of the argument irritated me, especially as it was so uncivil. What we need is people calmly laying out their opinions and the facts that back them up and the other party attempting to understand them. I know people on all sides of the argument and most of them turn the Brexit question into a full-on sheeet-flinging contest as soon as you mention it.

I would add that TTIP, and the European Commission president being handpicked is the kind of stuff that put off some of my Leave-voting relatives/friends and I can understand that. My main reason for these posts is it annoys me when people imply that all Leave voters are morons who don't consider such things.

I voted remain, but get the feeling some remainers would be more than happy to see the poorer in society (who they see as brexiteers) suffer a fate worse than death so they can smugly sit back and say "told you so"

MUDD

Kind of ironic that Brexit was supposed to take back control (by leaving the EU’s regulatory landscape).

But every single third country across the world which has preferential access to the internal market, (by way of MRA, EPA, FTA etc etc) has to comply with the rules of the internal market. Which are set my member states. Not third countries (which we will legally be post Brexit).

The fact that millions of people across the country were duped into believing Brexit represented taking back control is a travesty.

San Miguel:

It really seems that way doesn't it. There's a lot of people out there who want to see Leavers punished for their vote. Ironically, if some of the Leave vote was a 'protest' vote, I imagine the superiority expressed by some Remainers probably helped fuel that.

In a democracy you have to accept that people might vote against your interests...or even against their own interests maybe. Democracy as practiced in the UK isn't a perfect system but it's the best we've had so far.

So the answer is, stay in the EU and become a vassal
state under the control of a system that despises GB and will drive us into subservience. The EU is run by Germany, assisted by its French poodle.
The only winners in the Euro states are those two and our supposed vote is equivalent to Malta.
CRAZY.

The fact that only 56% of people from NI voted remain demonstrates how persuasive the Leave message was.

Is it democracy if people vote based on clear and blatant lies? It's an open vote yes but to me it destroys what's so good about the democratic process.

Cast away forward and throw away aft !,.... and sail mindlessly away into the wide and wild north Atlantic .

I'm glad I jumped ship.

I've got Italian Citizenship as well, so I am not impacted by Brexit, but lots of people will suffer if there isn't a good deal.

People forget, we used our influence in the EU to tailor the rules and regs to favour our country too.

I've spent (a probably unhealthy) amount of time researching how the EU has benefited NI.

If the province was aware of the amount of infrastructure, support, (ERDF, PEACE etc) funding has been pumped into the country from the EU (we are considerable net beneficiaries) I'd like to think the vast majority of people here would want to retain close links to the EU.

Then there's the DUP....

We got our way 95% of the time in the EU, had a veto, kept our own currency, would not bail out anybody.

How we chucked this away to placate uninformed people is a mystery to me.

so we did have our cake and everyone was merrily eating it, ok some could have had an extra cherry, but instead there was a movement to chuck it in the bin and make a new one with only a few ingredients because those are supposedly better for us.

The ingredients dont exist, the oven isnt even plumbed in, never mind pre heated and the cake tin hasnt been properly coated.

And no way will it be acceptable to call it Gateaux Bretagne, it'll be called British Cake instead. Thatll show em!

I'd posted this on another thread but worth a read. This has already happened.

The businesses who have left, implemented contingency plans etc etc. Billions of lost revenue to the public purse.

It's a damning indictment of where we are.
