Spurs are such a family club with some of their fans always shouting racist abuse and death threats towards Sol Campbell. Also, this trend of generalising an entire section of fans based on a few idiots and vile people is stupid and ridiculous in my view!

Robbing, do you think that if Spurs fans stopped using the Y word positively that Chelsea and West Ham fans would stop their anti-semitic chanting?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont think it would hurt.
-------------------
wow, spurs fans here have literally said they took up the song in response to the song opposition fans sang in the 1st place, surely you cant be that slow

All it does is enable people to say;

'Well they use it".

It's an enabler. If people cant see that I think theyre either being naive or obtuse.
-----------------------
but surely you the see the context in how its used and just a case of they said we said? spurs have clearly taken the chant up to basically take the weapon away from opposition, which has probably further annoyed them and that's why they've added bits to the song to cause maximum offence
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just dont say it at all. It's really quite easy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll give you a real quick timeline of events.

Anti-semitic chants started being aimed at Spurs as there was a sizeable Jewish community in and around Tottenham.

Tottenham fans embraced this and coined ourselves the yeeds to fight back.

And we're at fault?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont give a fvck about history. It's a word with racist connotations like it or not I'm afraid. Using it in any context propogates that's language. As such giving racist fvck like the morons at Chelsea last night enables them.

It's really simple.

The amount of times someone has condoned chelsea racist chanting on this thread = 0 that i remember seeing

The amount of times someone has been asked 'so that makes it ok to chant racist abuse' = too many

Okay.

There's a problem with United fans chanting about the Hillsborough disaster.

Would it help if Liverpool fans didn't persist with the JFT96 campaign?

Cos that's your logic. It would help with the problem if the targetted fans didn't mention it.

It applies to so many words...

Going out for a f@g is socially acceptable. Use the same word to target someone's sexuality is wrong.

Eating pork f@ggots - Use the same word to attack someone's sexuality is wrong.

I'm having a g@y old time - Use the same word to attack someone's sexuality is wrong.

CONTEXT CONTEXT CONTEXT
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet gay people are ok using all those words with in their community.

Hypocrisy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. They're ok with them being used within their community. Just like us...

Walking up to someone and calling them a facking f@ggot caaaant is not ok

I'm lost for words that some people can't get their heads aroudn this.

So it’s picking and choosing which way someone takes it.

Which is two faced and highly hypocritical, either dont use it or get on with it.

Don’t you understand what reclaiming is.

Go on then Phenom, explain.

I think using racially based language, regardless of context, propogates it.

If you can explain how it doesn't I'd be amazed.

Go....

Do any of you lads ever call us Paddy’s? Or would you consider that racist?

For your information we call ourselves that all the time.
