The problem is, Rob, that while your concerns are valid and there is fair reason for criticism, you dismiss any mitigating circumstances out of hand because you’ve already set your stall out, so it’s kind of futile discussing the issue with you.

I know the game you’re playing as it’s quite transparent. Just thought I’d make it clear for you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically this
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You all do the same to Robb. He has valid point but everyone attacks him because he's Robb.

Ole has shown he tactically inept and has no pedigree in running a massive club like United. Who are also run poorly on the footballing side.

Where's the trust in Ole coming from when he's won only 2 in 11 matches? That includes 2 relegated sides.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its a faith based on nothing substantial whatsoever other than hope. I’ve been there with Moyes and learnt from it. It would seem people on here have abandoned everything they’ve learnt from previous failures and are suddenly blaming everyone but Ole.

It’s because he’s a club legend which is fair enough but when he inevitably fails next season and the fans finally turn against him just as they turned against another club legend in Rooney ( ‘he’s fat’ , ‘I’ll drive him to the airport’ ) then it will be a sad but predictable end to an underwhelming and unnecessary appointment.

All I want is a capable United manager and yet these same people call me a Liverpool fan or some kind of contrarian even thought my argument is coming from a good and logical place.

Go figure 🤷‍♂️
--------------------------------

Robb, how is it based on nothing substantial? The man has actually won league titles, albeit in a lesser league. That is more than what Poch has won, and yet you would happily have taken him.

Our last 3 managers had no idea about what it took to be a United manager. You backed two of them. Yet all they have really done is help to make things worse. Ole and Phelan understand the club more than the previous 3 managers and have a better chance than most of getting rid of the deadwood and bringing through/in players that have the right character and to build a squad with the long term in mind.

We have tried the short-term fix with your man Jose. It didn't work, even though you were utterly convinced it would. Time to give a different approach a try.

Again, it doesn't matter nearly as much who we have coaching the side in the next twelve to 24 months as it does who we have shaping the next few years' transfer policy and target profiles, making executive decisions on transfers, trimming the squad, and making decisions on and negotiating renewals.

We could have Pep coaching for the next three years and win nothing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone is attacking him because over the years we have become familiar with the pattern by which Robb makes a prediction and then digs in to defend his position, exhibiting bias confirmation aplenty and scarcity of intellectual caution. He's also disingenuous - in this thread portraying his critics as slavishly showing faith in Solskjaer when most of us are saying things very different from this. As BerbaKing says, he's not arguing in good faith. That's why people respond negatively.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But thats the thing, he wanted Poch had doubts about Ole. Ole performed well and Robb changed his mind started to back Ole. Results have now taken a nose dive and confirmed Robbs earlier opinion that Ole is not right for the job. Dont see a problem with that. People can change their mind. I am sure if Ole stays on and makes the right calls, gets the right players, and turn things around, Robb will back Ole. If he doesnt, then you have a point. At this moment you dont.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

or the way most people look at it, Ole has shown what he can do with a poor group of players, a group that when things started to go wrong, do what a lot of teams in that situation do and revert to what they know, which worked to an extent under Jose because that was his style, under a new manager it has a more disastrous effect.

Robb is not just airing valid critiques of Ole he is actually calling for him to be sacked.

I just have massive doubts he has what it takes and really don’t understand where all this faith in him comes from

--------------------------------------

Where are these declarations of faith? Most of what I see is open-mindedness based on a recognition that Solskjaer hasn't had a chance to demonstrate much of what he can do with the club yet.

By contrast, Robb established on day one that he's judged against OGS a priori, without awaiting such evidence. Based purely on exactly the same internet logic of "player X can't be good because he plays in a weak league".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats just wrong, Robb was reserved about Ole and rather wanted Poch.

And the second part is also questionable, Ole had 5 months to demonstrate what he was capable off, and he has proven that he didnt have the capacity to change things around. He's in fact ended the last 11 matches worse than Mourinho.
---------------------

Jose averaged 1.53 points per match in the PL that season, Ole has managed 1.91 per game, despite not having made any of his own signings.

How has he proven that he is not capable of turning things around? He improved our points return by about 25%. Give him a preseason and the chance to make some of his own signings before writing him off.

Your position Robb is fair because it is your opinion, which we are all entitled to.
But the logic which you profess to is not fair.
It's true the last eleven games have been relegation form, but the previous dozen games were top 3 form at least, taken overall we have finished in about the right place.
Plus the eleven games included two against Barca.
Now you can talk about new manager bounce as if it's a thing. But Fergie didn't have it, or Klopp, or Pep, or Rafa or Jose. The only one I can think of is Shakespeare and that was not as impressive as Ole's.
If Ole is to blame for the bad run because of tactics etc, then he is entitles to credit for the good run.
It could just be that DDG lost form at a critical time, that injuries disrupted us, that we had a run of tough fixtures, that beginning to lose meant we lost confidence. that we were not fit enough for his style. All are possible.
I don't think Ole is the new Messiah for us, but he certainly could get us back on the right track, getting a team that can play good football and get us top 4 when he has what he wants.

I said this on here yesterday, with how toxic this club is with how it’s run no one is set up to succeed. But Robb just doesn’t listen when he’s in this mode of thought.

posted on 13/5/19

Well, in terms of Robb listening and changing his opinions, not many on here do that. Tbf to Robb, he has admitted he has been wrong when he knows he has. I don't see many others doing it. I don't remember many mea culpas from you Martial for example, or do you never get it wrong?

People are allowed a change of opinion. That's fine. The thing with Robb though is that it's not just a change of opinion - it's his entire outlook on football which changes based on whether or not he likes the current United manager.

LVG is in charge and the team is shīt: Well it's the manager's job to motivate and get the most out of his players. If he cant do that then he needs to go.

Jose is in charge and the team is shīt: Yeah, but how can the manager account for the individual mistakes of the players? The club is poorly run, it isn't all the managers fault. He needs more time.

Ole is in charge....you get the gist.

I'll give Robb the benefit of the doubt and say I dont think he even realises he's doing this. But its why no one who is a regular on this board takes this sort of guff seriously.

No against him just means against him getting the job nowhere did I infer you disliked him or wanted him to fail.

But you had your heart set on poch despite there being nothing to indicate him wanting the job. Your initial narrative was against ole getting the job but you then started to change your mind when oles run continued culminating in the PSG game. Obviously you reverted back to your original stance given the form of the last couple of months
----------------------------------------------------------------------
people able to change opinion rather than sticking to the death
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robb knows all about that given his defense to the bitter end of Moyes and jose

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he is not defending Moyes and Mourinho any longer, thats the whole point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No that's not your point
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You deleted 90% of my comment. You say Robb sticks to defending Moyes and Mourinho to death. Fact is he doesnt. When Mourinho got the sack he said it was the right call.

Yeah and before that it was Championship winning form.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope...i doubt if he'd even win the championship
----------------------------------------------------------------------

An answer to a question which was never asked. The form we were in WAS championship winning form.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No again. Championship winning form is doing it consistently against your main rivals over an extended period. Any team can knock off a few wins on the spin....many teams do.

Simple fact is united gave one of the biggest jobs in world football to a guy that no other major club would have taken. He's clearly not up to it and the longer it goes on the longer it will take to fix.

It's no job for a rookie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You do realise my answer was in response to the OP claiming that United have displayed relegation type form over the last bunch of games?

Going by this logic, United displayed championship winning form before that over the course of MORE games.

This is unless of course you are over looking this logic when it's used to paint Ole in a negative light? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because that would mean you have an agenda.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont agree with the other point either.

I have no agenda. If you believe that ole is good enough for utd then the standards and exoectations at that club have dipped alarmingly.

Utd are among the top ten clubs in the world. Is he among the top ten managers? Top twenty maybe?

Utd fans are sleeping their way to mediocrity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t believe Ole is good enough or the wrong person, I believe he deserves a chance to prove he is the man for the job.

Because what I’ve seen since that PSG game has been shocking.

And the only reason I want him sacked is that it’s 3 months till the new season and I feel we have the wrong man. Not too late for Ed to be ruthless and bring in someone capable.

I know Ed isn’t that ruthless so this article is more a vent than a demand. Sadly I feel we’re wasting another season with a very poor choice of manager who is showing week after week how out of his depth he is.

Apparently Molde have actually improved since OGS left - currently top of the table and more point per game than last year.

Frankly I think it was ludicrous to give a manager with so little experience one of the biggest jobs in football but now you have then surely you need to give him a fair chance to succeed. That means backing him in the transfer market and seeing what he can do with a full season.
