I wonder if Pochettino was always this weird even in his Spurs years and I just looked past it because his team was so sexy
Or if he has actually gone off the deep end since he left
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not as weird as not spending any f*cking money in two transfer windows, LEVY.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No need to get defensive. I said his team was sexy. He can be a good manager and still be a facking weirdo, they're not mutually exclusive

When Ange has us playing regularly in the CL and in semis and finals we can talk about Poch’s “weirdness “
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the team he had when I look back now I think it’s a fail he didn’t win anything
I sound like Sandy but it’s true …..he had the best team I’ve seen since I’ve supported Tottenham
----------------------------------------------------------------------
most if not all the team were not half the playrs they were before he was coach though
but fack him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a multi faceted debate.
1. Yes, Poch did a good job in coaching many players to perform a lot better than they were before he arrived, including Rose, Vert, Walker, Dembele, Eriksen. His early recruitment of Toby, Dele, Son, Wanyama, to a lesser extent Trippier & Davies was very fruitful. For the first few years we were fit, hard pressing, played exciting football, achieved our best league positions for generations, went unbeaten at WHL in our farewell season and reached a CL final. Net spend was pretty low, unity between fans and club was high. We had good times.
2. Apart from a few big hits the majority of his recruitment was poor. He made some poor decisions at crucial times like playing Son at full back in an FA semi and dropping Lucas for the CL final. He went a bit weird in the last year, PL form fell off a cliff, quality of our play dropped off a lot in the final 2 years. He underachieved with the peak team he had - 100% should’ve won at least one trophy, especially as between 2014 and 2018 there was no dominant forces to contend with like previous Arsenal/Utd or recent City/Liverpool. Lots of big clubs were weak and in transition and we were at our strongest but failed to capitalise.
3. The last point in no2 is why Sizzle can’t make blanket statements like Ange isn’t as good as Poch if he doesn’t get 3rd or a CL final. The landscape is very different now with some very dominant forces in Liverpool & City as well as resurgent forces like Arsenal. In the mid 00’s the PL was so weak that Leicester were able to win it on about 78 points. You can only really judge on the era you are in.
Ultimately Poch came in, did a great job in the league for 4 seasons but bottled several clear cut trophy opportunities, evidently lost the plot a bit in the last season but the dreadful form and football was masked by an incredible (and jammy if we’re honest) run to the CL final (where we absolutely failed to turn up again). He was also very lucky to have a generational talent striker come out of the academy just as he arrived, not many coaches are fortunate enough to land a peak Harry Kane for free when they start their job. I look back on his time very fondly, but I would never have him back and I don’t get the ‘first love’ style pining or the unnecessary comparisons with Ange.
My advice would be to get over it and move on.

It says ‘10 years of chaos’ at Spurs which is bollox. We had 5 years of stability and continuity under Poch. The four years since have been up & down but Dier himself during that time was a stalwart of both Jose and Contes teams playing in his preferred position of CB. It’s more of a loose recap of his Spurs career than any meaningful opinion piece. We all know what Dier is - decent at some stuff but technically limited, a sound seeming guy who is past his sell by date at Spurs and not really suited to the new managers style. Don’t need some daft bird to educate us when we’ve all been watching him for a decade.

I’d be happy because none of our rivals have strengthened and we have. I don’t think for one minute we are gonna sell PEH and buy a quality central midfielder this window on top of the business we’ve already done, that just seems to fanciful for Spurs. Close it now, we’re alright Jack and feck everyone else.
