which happened when she stepped out with a “throng” of other people
So wasnt just her he flew into?
Saw this yesterday, the bloke apparently didn't sue because he doesn't support the sueing culture that's creeping into society.
It's an absolute joke and if there's any justice he'll win an appeal but to get that far I guess he'd have to risk further massive court costs.
Would be great if common sense prevailed here, imagine if a cyclist went through a red light while looking at his mobile phone and crashed into a pedestrian who was shouting at them to stop and swerve
Equal blame clearly not.

Absolute joke.
I’ve knocked 3 people over in London because they walk out with phones and don’t look. Frustrates the hell out of me as I damage my bike. I don’t care about them. Next one that does it is getting their phone smashed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've knocked over 3 people? Sounds like you're the one that needs to watch the road when he's riding around.
Probably running through red lights like most knucklehead cyclists do.
Why do so many people hate cyclists so much?
I'll confess I don't cycle, I've got a bike but am too scared to go on the roads. It sees day light on rare occasions for a pleasure ride on some cycle paths. When you see the way people squeeze cyclists into the curb because they have no regard or understanding of safety or simply don't see them at all it just doesn't seem worth risking your life...
And yes I agree some cyclists can behave like utter mugs but most don't and bar breaking road rules (riding double breast is legal from my understanding and often safer) the main gripe is they slow people down.
Above all is there simply an element of jealousy as (people like myself) are too lazy (too much of a pansy also) and greedy to get off their polluting arris and leave the car at home? It shines a light on peoples selfishness
All road users hate each other. But cyclists get it the worse as other road see them as glorified pedestrians and pedestrians see them as failed motorcyclists.
Come on people, we all know the media don't have a shining track record of letting facts get in the way of a good story. There's precious little in the article on the reasons given by the judge for reaching his verdict, only the tidbits that reinforce the impression of his making a seemingly preposterous ruling.
I realise that cycling around in a big city can be a trying and tricky experience at the best of times, but it's not that hard to see bikers banking on their riding skills rather than simple common sense in order to avoid collisions.
All road users have the duty to avoid harm to others. Right of way doesn't preclude this duty. Just because a pedestrian is in the wrong, it doesn't give anyone the 'right' to mow them down.
So it might also be that the bloke got fined not because the woman wasn't also in the wrong (the judge apparently pointed out that she could also have been sued), but because he was riding at 15mph towards a bunch of pedestrians, and resorted to bellowing and honking at them (confident in his ability to swerve around them at the last minute) rather than braking a bit to slow down to a less dangerous speed.
It mentions it was green (the lights) and the lady, while looking at her phone, started crossing the road.
He should have counter sued. If he still can, he should.
The sueing culture is an american abomination, someone gets facked over and the lawyers get incredibly rich.
When the answer is "you should have sued her too" you know the country has gone to shiiite
Think some of you are missing the point. Just because someone is in the road when they shouldn't (be it pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle), doesn't give you the right to recklessly plough straight through them.

I do about 20-30 miles a day around London and that was over a period of 8 years. I don’t jump lights I’m a safe cyclist. More cars jump lights than bikes do in London. I don’t call all car drivers caaants but carry on stereotyping you blinkered fool

I have equal disdain for inept cyclists, motorists and pedestrians. No blinkers here.

The anti cyclist brigade cry about cyclists running red lights yet apparently see no issue with drivers accelerating to get through on an amber.
And how many drivers do you know that stick to every speed limit every time they drive?
One of life’s bizarre things, the anti cyclist sentiment.
Why do cyclists run red lights though? It's dangerous and a diiick move.

Why do cars jump lights and stop signs?? I have to be so aware cycling through central London and every journey I have near misses because of moron drivers.
I bet you’ve never been knocked over by a cyclist? I’ve been hit by numerous cars and buses in my life. I’ve had 3 operations due to foolish drivers
Pedestrians are worse. Walking through traffic and too busy on social media to see where they are going

Same reason drivers do.
Cars rarely ever go through red lights. Very rarely. about 90% of cyclists do. I'm not trying to be a diiick, I just don't understand why they do it.
As for pedestrians walking through red lights, I agree, it's pointless to not wait and I don't think people should do it. If everyone just waited for the right time to cross/go everything would be safer.
Cyclists jump red lights because there's little chance of being caught and fined unlike motorists.
I bet you’ve never been knocked over by a cyclist?

Btw, I can think of ONE time in my entire life when I was almost hit by a car running a red light. One time. Happens all the time with cyclists.

Very rarely? Tens of thousands are fined every year and many, many more get away with it when there are no cameras.
You’re plain wrong.

Given that such a small number of lights have cameras, this is of course completely incorrect.
