Next time you’re driving, think of this thread and note whether you stick to every speed limit. And I don’t mean sticking to 35 in a 30, I mean actually sticking to it.
No one does.

Cars rarely ever go through red lights. Very rarely. about 90% of cyclists do. I'm not trying to be a diiick, I just don't understand why they do it.
As for pedestrians walking through red lights, I agree, it's pointless to not wait and I don't think people should do it. If everyone just waited for the right time to cross/go everything would be safer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very rarely? Tens of thousands are fined every year and many, many more get away with it when there are no cameras.
You’re plain wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t out of how many that is but from my own experience it is very rare to see a car jump a red light whereas cyclists do it all the time, there are more that cyclists jump red lights than those that don’t.
I’m just saying it’s a bit rich to blame people driving cars for acting dangerously when most cyclists behave the way they do.

Cyclists jump red lights because there's little chance of being caught and fined unlike motorists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ll just add on this:
- you notice cyclists jumping reds because generally it’s more blatant, where as drivers do it at high speed when lights have just changed and this is normalised/accepted, as most driving infractions are.
- there is more opportunity for cyclists as they’re generally not stuck in a queue. When drivers have the opportunity to break laws that they’re confident they can get away with, they do i.e. 35 in a 30.
- drivers and cyclists are the same people. There’s no inherent behavioural characteristic that belongs to people who ride bikes but not who ride cars. This is vs them debate is moronic.
Oh and lastly, I believe a study some time ago, in a London, showed about 12% of cyclists ran red lights.
