Imagine the outrage in the Daily Mail comments section if a cyclist killed a pedestrian and rode off.
On roads, cyclists are vulnerable – but on towpaths they're the menace

They’re an irritant rather than a menace, I’d say.
2 points:
- The solution is segregated cycle infrastructure. Can you blame people for cycling on the towpaths instead of the road?
- Yet another article about cyclists. Meanwhile, more people die due to motorists, who no one ever seems to write about in this manner. Why?
The article is by a cyclist. She didn't think it was an irritant. I have seen numerous articles in the Guardian about cyclists deaths and vulnerability. Indeed until recently there was a weekly article written by a cyclist for cyclists. It seems you only want to hear one side and dismiss the other as just irritating or not enough data.

I asked when there articles like this about motorists?
And I don’t care if she doesn’t think it’s an irritant. There’s no stats to back up the idea this is a danger.
All the article has is anecdotes.
Yes I can read, and pointed out there have been many articles in the Guardian about cyclists deaths etc. As I'm on holiday in Norway I'm not going to search them out fot you. I know you don't believe any of it, because you don't want to.

An article about cyclist deaths is not an article about motorists being a menace.
I could give a feck where you are. If you can’t answer the point then don’t try to dismiss it.
I cycle towpaths and pedestrians can be a menace. They don't indicate when walking on to the path and don't ring their bell. They do not even wear helmets. If you are going to be walking on the cycle path then you should be obeying the same rules as the cyclists. They probably don't even have insurance. Most of them don't even have lights on at night.
Do you never debate in good faith? Listen to others point of view, leave off the sarcy comments.
Pedestrians need to get the helll off our towpaths

Check out the end of your first reply.
You seem incapable of accepting my points and want to dismiss them as being one sided.
There’s your reason for the tone of this discussion.
I'm a pedestrian on the towpath and ducks are an absolute menace. They sit on the path completely oblivious to us trying to walk past. They don't even wear shoes. If ducks want to be on our towpaths then they should follow the same rules as us.
I've re-read my first couple of comments. Nothing insulting just my opinions. So you don't debate in good faa3so I'll leave you to it.
I didn’t accuse you of insulting me.
I suggest you learn to read before you start accusing me of anything.
You're tone is insulting and sarcy, you said I set the tone. You should learn to read and think.
You set the tone in not respecting my opinion.
I replied in kind.
Nope, the other way. You are an ignorant man who ignores any opinion, and is convinced only you know what is right.

You need to grow up and take a closer look at yourself.
Right from the start you decided to try and dismiss my opinion as bias, rather than debate it. You admitted that you don’t actually have any basis for your opinion.
I do respect other people’s opinion if it’s based on something.
You haven’t brought any logic to the debate and you don’t seem very clear on what your opinion is. All you seem clear on is that you want to try and dismiss my opinion, when mine is actually based on a fair bit of knowledge.
It's not based on any more knowledge than a 5 minutes search on Google can give.
I didn't dismiss your opinion on Cy list vulnerability, I agreed with it. You dismissed my opinion on cyclist in pedestrian areas as just an annoyance, the same way you dismi the Guardian article as anecdote.
You are an arrogant man who thinks he is always right, I now understand others opinion of you. You need to take a look at yourself, and learn how to debate without a pré assumed position and acknowledge other people have views.
But you won't, because you are always right.
I’m not always right. I happily debate subjects with informed people.
How do you know what my knowledge is based on? You haven’t got a clue.
Yet again you’re just here to dismiss my opinion rather than to discuss the subject. It’s what you’ve done right from the start and it’s what you’re still doing. Pathetic.
Listen, this has all become a bit silly.
If you want to discuss the topic then perhaps go back to my first post and comment on the points I raise without telling me I’m one sided and can’t see an alternative view.
I do have a strong opinion on this but it’s based on quite a lot of knowledge and experience.
So, by all means disagree, but don’t do it on the basis of trying to dismiss my view as biased. It’s lazy and it got my back up.
I'm a duck and I often use the towpath to sleep or tuck my head into my back as I think it makes me invisible but the pedestrians can be an absolute menace. How difficult is it to look where you are going? We can all share the path of we are just a bit more observant. Remember that ducks have priority on paths, not pedestrians so you have to give way to us not the other way around. Bloody pedestrians think they own the path.

Ever done this?

I've been invited out there for 2020 - expenses paid! Haven't ridden my bike for many years though. Not sure I want to train on UK roads for that.
But an expenses paid trip to Cape Town.
Can I turn that down?!
