Just don't sing if you don't like it.
Booing like this is disrespectful to the country, to the people that have fought and died to protect it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As stated above the national anthem has nothing to do with England and every thing to do with a make believe man saving some old biddy born into privilege!
-----------
Well, that's, like, your opinion, man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's an ill informed opinion that has little basis in truth. The anthem, by definition is a metaphor for our pride in the country as a whole.

Masses as in a large group of people, yes. The difference is this is English people booing their own anthem. Imagine if we carried this over and booed every anthem of other countries. It's embarrassing and shows a total lack of respect.
I'm not even a nationalist to be honest. I don't live in the UK right now, so maybe I don't understand the strength of feeling amongst the Scouse population, but this just doesn't sit right with me. It's not as embarrassing as Brexit Party MEPs turning their backs in the EU Parliament. If that did not outrage you, you have no reason to be outraged here when people are free to express their feelings in a nonhateful way.
Personally, don't give a shaite about either things. It's not like they are booing because a player is black or something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The question is "why" though. We don't learn without asking questions. Giving other scenarios unrelated to the topic doesn't answer the question.
----------------
You'll only get opinions of why here. Unless there were fans here who were the ones booing the anthem, you're unlikely to get an answer. And even then the answer will not be the same.
But seriously, this isn't as embarrassing as those MEPs. You can kind of expect some footy fans acting like idiots but representatives of the UK doing that embarrasses the nation.
The way is see this incident is how I can use it to Wum Liverpool fans on here and poie score when talking about who has the most embarrassing, dispicable fans.

I'm incredibly proud to be English. Just horribly embarrassed that we sing about a mythical man in the sky saving a member of a royal family that should have been abolished decades ago.

The lyrics in national anthems around the world talk about the beautiful country, the people and their prospects. Ours talks about how great the queen is. Come on. Time for a new one.

This. Rule Britannia should be our anthem
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah if it were 100s of years ago. In the 21st century, we should have a new one, which is actually relevant.

I'm not even a nationalist to be honest. I don't live in the UK right now, so maybe I don't understand the strength of feeling amongst the Scouse population, but this just doesn't sit right with me. If you feel the song or the politics of the country doesn't represent you there are far better ways of expressing it than this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think booing is a pretty harmless way of expressing it. Imagine people getting upset about the booing of something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You try going to an American sports stadium and booing their anthem.

KLS. Just asking, don't get defensive
I'm mature enough to listen to others views. If I don't agree I don't assume my opinion is always right. I don't boo either. Actually, I have done before on munerous occasions
I juts don't get why yesterday and why Liverpool fans. The reasons given indicate this booing should have bene going on for years. It hasn't.

It has!
We’ve been singing we’re not English we scouse for years.

They have turned into UTD fans who do the same
Must be horrible to not be proud of your country
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm incredibly proud to be English. Just horribly embarrassed that we sing about a mythical man in the sky saving a member of a royal family that should have been abolished decades ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you want it to be about an existing fat gobsheite saving Britain from Europe?

Why would anyone be proud of this country right now? Run by an incompetent government hell bent on making the poor even more poor, and you get Brexit nationalist diiickheads like you that think we are still in the empire days so everyone should bow down to Britain.

The lyrics in national anthems around the world talk about the beautiful country, the people and their prospects. Ours talks about how great the queen is. Come on. Time for a new one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. Rule Britannia should be our anthem
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah if it were 100s of years ago. In the 21st century, we should have a new one, which is actually relevant.

Been happening since Thatcher and the 80's.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But not booed the anthem before. Not all Liverpool fans hate England. I'd say its a minority.

Imagine if we all booed everything we didn't agree with.
Morons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine a song being forced on the populations as a representation of the masses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like You'll Never Walk Alone?
Grow up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, cos YNWA represents the country doesn't it.
Jesus
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It represents the masses doesn't it? Or did you choose it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you know what the masses means? It's sung by a group of supporters as a song for their club and is booed up and down the country by other teams. No issue with that at all. Football is tribalism personified. The national anthem is forced on the entire country as a representation..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Masses as in a large group of people, yes.
Yes you’ll probably get gunned down alongside say another 28 people,
