It is a preference, not a fact. Not even if you say another thousand times to add to the first thousand.

No it isn't. The pinnacle cannot be a preference. It either is or it isnt. The CL is the pinnacle of club football. Have you ever heard the PL being called the pinnacle of club football? There's a reason for that.

posted on 6/10/19

Yes it can be a preference. If somebody prefers to win the title to the CL, then the title is the pinnacle for that person.
Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm not sure you know what a fact is.

Wow.

So the pinnacle changes year after year depending on the preference of an individual and circumstances of his/her club that season.

So basically it's what Barry said. That's how bad your comment is, only yours was serious. His was a joke.

Yes it does, or rather it can do. It's never changed for me. It only exists in people's head. It's not a trophy, à prize, an award, a fact. It is like, for example, good football. It differs person to person.

I don't know or care what Barry said, basically.

You can't just pick and choose what the pinnacle of club football is based on your personal preference, which can change from season to season. The pinnacle of club football is the pinnacle of club football. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

I understand completely if you prefer the league, I even understand if you think it's more difficult but you can't just state the PL is the pinnacle of club football because you prefer it. Not to mention the arrogance of that statement considering there are other leagues in Europe and the fact that many of the top players in the world prefer La Liga. If you then think each individual league is the pinnacle then that is just as ridiculous as you can't have several pinnacles of club football

The CL is the pinnacle, always has been considering you take the best teams from each league and out them in competition with each other. England have won what? 12 between the clubs? I believe Madrid have 13. So how can you say the PL is the pinnacle of club football when it isn't even the preferred league for the elite players and it doesn't compare favourably with La Liga in terms of European success?

You can't just decide on the pinnacle of club football based on your personal preference.

Probably the most sensible comment on this article to be fair

First of all the CL is a fact, you can watch it, see a cup given.
The pinnacle is not official, no award is given, somebody called it that, they could have said the peak, acme, summit, highest, or whatever.
Other leagues may call it the pinnacle, we don't have to. If, which they don't, the majority, preferred the PL it would become the pinnacle because they would say so.
It's just words, an idea, an opinion. Real may love it, people at Monaco may feel different, or a team from the Basque region may prefer to beat Madrid, that would be their pinnacle. My pinnacle is the league, and I'm not the only one.

Cheers Barry, sometimes you do nail things in a satirical way. I enjoy a lot of your posts.

No. What you prefer doesnt make it the pinnacle. It makes it a preference. You don't get to choose what the pinnacle is.

TOOR is right. By definition the pinnacle is the highest peak. The CL is above the league in terms of football in europe.

Snowden is the pinnacle of the Snowdonia national park in Wales. I prefer climbing Cader Idris. It doesn't make Cader Idris the pinnacle.

Yes, you do get to choose what the pinnacle is.
It's not a 'thing' , I'm sure nobody in Greece or Hungary has heard ot the pinnacle of football, though of course they have heard of the CL;
pinnacle definition: 1. the most successful or admired part of a system or achievement:
The Cambridge dictionary;

I'm sure for many teams the pinnacle of their season is beating their dreaded rivals. A club may have one pinnacle, and some of the fans another.

The CL is not the pinnacle of club competition, unless the club thinks it is.
Also, unlike a league, it doesn't produce the best team in Europe, anymore than the FA Cup produces the best team in England. It may do, or it may not.

It is a great competition, glamorous, exciting, you see great teams from other countries, there's a lot of money involved. It's a trophy to treasure.

But none of that makes it the pinnacle of club football, because such a thing only exists in imagination/opinion.
My opinion for my club is that the pinnacle is the PL, the CL is a wonderful bonus.

I get the theory but I'm fairly certain if you asked anyone in the game what the pinnacle of club football to a man they would say the CL and at some point that opinion has to hold gravitas. Simply saying it's open to interpretation is a massive cop out.

That's your preference. It's not the pinnacle. You keep confusing the two.

If everybody says it, then it is.
If 75% say it is then it is for 75%
etc.
However Robbing, I will concede that if the vast majority said it was, then it is.
But do they? I don't know, maybe so, it would depend how you phrased the question.
But if your certainty is correct, then what follows is correct.

Exactly, you could phrase it differently than what was actually discussed, for example "the best trophy to win" and you may get different responses.

Id be surprised if it wasnt but it also doesnt matter a huge amount to me. Both are great arent they.

If you google "Pinnacle of club football" there is not much chat about the Premier League though.

You keep saying the pinnacle as if it were a thing, it isn't. It doesn't exist.
You keep being confused.
Robbing at least understands, whilst still thinking people would say it is.
You don't understand.

And you could ask A Birmingham supporter
"what's the pinnacle of club football" and may get the answer "stuffing Villa".

You're right Robbing, I enjoy winning the league cup, or indeed any trophy.
My favourites were always the ones I could get to.
I would enjoy a last Wembley experience, I haven't even been to the new one.
