Guendo can make good tackles at the half way line but any further back and he just panics
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which is perfect if he has someone quick snapping in behind like Torreira if he gets beaten/fails in the tackle. Not someone who can't cover for pace whatsoever (Xhaka).

When I said helping out with the defending I meant more pressing around our own box (which I think he's pretty good at), not being responsible for making last-ditch tackles, that should be Torreira & the defence.

If you don't want to be abused by twitter trolls.... don't have twitter.

This is the greatest victory for said trolls and they'll be jacking it into their mums knickers at the sight of Xhaka's reaction and comments. Someone really needs to advise the players better about social media if as grown men they don't understand that.

The person Xhaka should be angry at is the manager, he's the one putting him in a position to fail and failing he very much is.

Also the arguments against Torriera don't wash at all. If Emery played Aubamayang at left back he'd be a shiiite left back.

Until Torriera is given a proper run of games in his position then he can't be properly judged.

Break a leg means good luck, and I don’t understand ‘My feeling of not being understood by fans’ but whatever, take it steady guys, back to the studio.

It's a bit pointless, the players picked him as captain, they still want him as captain so it's not going to change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree. He is going to play and backed by the players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And you're gonna be the first to moan when he puts in a crap performance.

Maybe you should learn to read Einstein, nobody excused the trolls.

Also: 'I'm sorry if that's what people thought' is equal to saying: 'I'm sorry if you thought I was behaving like a (unt - I don't think I was though so this is not an apology'.

Probably too complex for you to understand though, never mind.

Disgraceful from the section of fans that booed him.

I don't think he has to apologise. Fans/supporters expect to give abuse yet are shocked when players react and shout abuse back.

How is that making excuses for trolls?

If you're famous and don't want to be insulted by twitter trolls then don't have an account. In an ideal world they don't exist but we live in a far from ideal world and unfortunately reactions like Xhaka's will give those trolls exactly what they were after...

Load of sh!t. Sums up the weak mentality at our club.

You need thicker skin than this if you want to be club captain. Xhaka is a petulant child and has proven so throughout his career. This pathetic half apology doesn't wash, hope he gets booed again at the weekend.

Not good enough and needs to leave.

Well written apology.

Good publicist.

Arsenal fans are embarrassing. The guy got made Captain and he has never been backed by the fanbase. Everything is Xhaka fault even when hes not at fault. That goal you conceded against United there was a clear deflection but fans first reaction was to blast the player.

Probably his proudest moment as a player being made Captain but that got ruined instantly by the Arsenal doom mongers. How about backing your player?

I will say it again but channels like AFTV where there are certain personalities who constantly hammer the same players every week have contributed to this.

I would also add that the people on AFTV are devoid of any personality. The small minority of people (not calling them fans) that spout and shout vitriol online also are what's wrong with our club systemically. Luckily there are enough decent fans who get behind the club and players no matter what.

For me there are two mayor points (at least) to address.

Whilst the abuse Xhaka has 'suffered'online doesn't reflect well on us as a fan base, it's completely wrong of him to lump it into the booing he faced on Sunday - after yet another bang average performance by him, it should be added - and his reaction to what was a tactical substitution aimed at bring the club (of which he is the captain) a victory.

The second point is that a lot (though not all) of the negativity aimed at him is actually anti-Emery sentiment, rather than solely anti-Xhaka. Just as Ozil shouldn't take the cheers and songs being sung about him to mean that Arsenal fans all think he's instantly going to transform us into world beaters, Xhaka is kinda collateral damage in our disgruntlement with the manager, and his lack of... well, pretty much anything good.

This statement is in no way an 'apology'. Ironically had it been, I'd have doubted its authorship - at least this feels as if Xhaka had a big part in writing it.

In some ways this lack of backing down shows strength. But ultimately it feels very weak, and also pretty cowardly. He couldn't just admit he'd made a mistake, rather dragging up spurious reasons for why he did what he did.

It's shocking to me that such an average player is a first team regular for this club. That he is also its Captain is borderline horrific. Hopefully at least one of these things is now dealt with.

If not, I think we're in for even worse things to come this season.

It's a sad state of affair that he's going to be hounded out of the club but if the manager/club had listened before they would have got rid before it got to this.

To give him the armband on top of that was impressively stupid.

Totally Agree Lex.

Whatsmore the time taken for the apology (even a weak one like this) has already done the damage.

Why does this sh!t constantly happen with our fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because your fans are a bunch of massivecunts. Saw it under Wenger the last few years, in the crowds, seen it on YouTube, seen it on social media, heard it on phone ins. Half of them are fans that hopped on the bandwagon in the early 00’s expecting success only to be faced with the second half of Wengers tenure. You’ve got so many internet plastics who couldn’t find north London on a map, who demand people like Wenger get out of ‘their club’. AFTV has got about a million subscribers and that’s just an embarrassment, a channel that other fans watch just to laugh at you - it’s success has been built on the hits from people watching the meltdowns. Nobody tunes in when Arsenal win. All clubs have a section of idiot fans, muppet fans, fans that make the proper fans cringe, but Arsenal seem to have these in disproportionate numbers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly have to agree with Ace on this. We used to be seen as being too passive as a fan base. Thanks to social media, with so many people now apparently thinking they 'have' to be heard above the noise of Twitter and Youtube comments etc it's gone the other way.

I still think that generally speaking Arsenal are pretty patient, level-headed supporters - compare us to fans in other countries, like the Italian ultras etc - but the idiots are the ones people remember most, and we all know there are more than enough of those out there online.

Ffs yeah Arsenal fans are the worst!

Love it when people slate AFTV as if those over reactions aren't deliberate. It's made careers for most of them. Even the players interact with them.

Opposition fans can't seem to work out that they are the target audience... low on intelligence, low on social interaction and desparate to bash Arsenal. Of course these invalids are going to tune in after every loss to laugh at "Arsenal fans".

Xhaka is gash. Never should have been made captain. We have no obligation to back and support any player at the club, especially when they're underperforming and acting like a spoilt brat.
