.. and what I mean by that is, he's pulling his family into the row to make people that haven't abused him online feel guilty that they've booed him at the stadium.

Again, not great from him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
his family had been given plenty of abuse prior to that event, its probably why he did what he did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What, despite four seasons of 'giving 100%' to the club?

Meh. Disable comments, and concentrate on your game.

He was prepared to play, then the fans abused him when he got subbed. It was only at that point after the abuse that he reacted. He did nothing to provoke anybody until he was booed and jeered, unless you didn't watch the match. Can't see why you exonerate the hooligans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not exonerating hooligans. I am giving you a timeline of what happened as a witness in the stadium.

When his number came up there were cheers that Emery was taking him off. He then slow walked and cupped his ears that started a wider booing. I actually remarked to a bloke next to me questioning what he was doing? Then it got louder when he threw something to the ground (later found out it was his armband) and took of his shirt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not exactly agreeing with the details of your timeline, but like I already said, the player didn't react well, neither shd we exonerate or excuse fans' behaviour. Just like when Eboue was booed and jeered to tears in 2008 when he was subbed despite doing absolutely nothing to provoke the crowd. Arsenal hooligans have history of this. Emery was also very wrong to select a captain thru a player vote.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I still fail to see what anyone did wrong in the stadium? Fans will cheer good play and boo poor performances. I assume you attend games?

However if you are now questioning the pathology of why it happened (as you have brought up Eboue) I have a theory. It is very rare when you can get an agreement on anything when so many different people watch anything. However in some circumstances it becomes so obvious that there is unanimous agreement. And when the manager cannot see it turns to frustration. The Eboue incident was the first signs of loss of trust in Wenger. No one could understand why someone who was playing so poorly was being selected continuously. I think Emery pinned himself to Xhaka as a starter by making him captain even though you agree above he does not deserve to be starting. That is turning to frustration in the fanbase. As many have pointed out above, Lexington for example, a lot of it is down to anger against Emery, like Wenger in case of Eboue, not being able to see the obvious.

It should be remembered that Arsenal fans are not the only fans ever to have booed one of their players, and all clubs have online douchbags.

Not sure where to suggest Xhaka should try plying his trade if he wants a carefree life as a footballer.

I think turning this incident into victimhood is not going to server him well. Footballers are paid millions of pounds to kick a ball around and the reason for that is the high pressure and expectation at the top clubs. If you can't do it best to go to a smaller league where you get paid £20k a week and not £120k.

Kneerash - you've once again proven you're too stoopid to engage in conversation with you is akin to watching paint dry and there was nothing wrong with what I wrote, simply stating the facts that anyone else with a brain has noticed too. For the last time my username is not a statement about myself, it's about my club, you wouldn't need that explaining to you for the 3rd time if your brain cell count was beyond single digits, filtered you Scouse moron, good riddance.

I don't think he came out with a woe is me, I'm blameless response

He does need to rise above the online hate and though I don't have an objective view I think we're one of the worst fanbases for it

He kept it short so there's a bit of detail missed out but I think he's explaining he was wrong but what motivated him, it was a reaction and a bit of a tantrum

Let's just move on

From the Press Conference today:

Unai Emery was asked outright if Granit Xhaka is still the Arsenal captain.

The Gunners boss said he was thinking only about Saturday's game and that Xhaka was not "in his mind" for selection.

Interesting that. Maybe he doesn't need to address it if the club have 'transfer listed' him.

Probably not technically. Maybe asked his agent to look for other clubs. I just don't know how you a repair a relationship in which the player has refused club orders. There was an interesting interview with the DoF of Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier in the week. I wondered why he said anything, after all Xhaka has been at Arsenal for 4 years. Sort of got the feeling Xhaka's agent had started down the path. And maybe he is now 'available'.

Despite everything he might be a player we can actually sell for a reasonable sum.

I don't know tbh. He hasn't covered himself with glory on the pitch....well ever at Arsenal. His arrival along with Mustafi and Kols has coincided with us missing out on the Champions League. Even if you overlook that because Enbglish football doesn't suit everyone, as a buying club how do you overlook his fragile mentality that was plain to see?

posted on 1/11/19

I'm thinking £15-20m at most which I would consider a reasonable sum for him and keeping in mind how poor we have been when it comes to selling players in recent years.

The club is just too big for him as a player with his glaring weaknesses but I still feel there are other clubs that would be happy to have the Swiss captain.

Perhaps a return to Borussia M.

I just wonder if his agent tried which is why we had the strange quote from Max Eberl.

"Of course, as a player, I could always picture him as a good player, but it's difficult to get him back. Not just financially, but also from the point of view of expectations."
"Players develop and change. In the end, you could end up doing more damage than you can win, so I'm not really a fan of return."

Oof, sounds like that door could be closed already then.

Why haven’t the club fined him yet, or stripped him of the captaincy?

Either it’s a return to the bad old days (already) of ignoring a problem and hoping it’ll go away by itself, or they’re leaving it up to Emery to deal with. A sort of, ‘this is your mess, you clean it up’ kinda thing.

posted on 1/11/19

I suspect its delicate cause of the voting for captain nonsense. It will be far easier dealing with it if we were to perform without him in the team. He is obviously a dressing room big mouth and now a discontented one. Think Emery should be hard now. He has nothing to lose.

We have sold players like Iwobi for 35M. Captain of Switzerland and captain of arsenal. At least 40M

posted on 1/11/19

I hope you're right but I don't see us getting £40m for him after everything that has happened, Iwobi is younger with more potential overall as a footballer.

£25m tops imho.
