Not really Winston. It would help clear it up if you could give a couple of examples of industries it would be better nationalised.

Why should I sit here and take a grilling from you?

This is about current party policies and our opinion of them so excuse me if I don’t sit here and take questioning from you about my entire political beliefs.

Your comment seemed to me to be against nationalisation generally. So which are you for and against.
Do you think that the sale of water should be in private hands?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t think you can take such a simplistic approach to a complex subject. I think there’s a better case for it in some industries vs others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s complex about it?

Energy, Water, the Post Office, and transport are far better off in public hands.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh well that’s that then.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well ultimately it is because in private hands the shareholder comes first

You can have a better service in private hands but boy do you pay for it

Economically there’s more to it than that.

It was hardly a grilling Winston. But when you post a comment such as yours, surely we can ask why you think the way you do.
And I wasn't sarcastic or abusive, just genuinely interested in your ideas on nationalization, as you appear quite against it.
If you don't want to debate that's fine, there's no obligation after all.

posted on 16/11/19

I’d rather debate the actual subject.

Your first comment included other industries.
But anyway I see no reason it should be a disaster, it seems a perfectly reasonable and achievable objective.
At the moment its only available in cities and large towns, I don't see a reason why people in hamlets, rural villages shouldn't have the same. It would cost much less than the proposed high speed rail line, and would help millions more people.

So the only solution to a lack of broadband in rural areas to the nationalise the industry?

posted on 16/11/19

If it is to be provided free, then yes.

posted on 16/11/19

That’s an absurd view.

posted on 16/11/19

I don't think it's absurd. Every household commected to high speed broadband seems an admirable aim to me, and to be free at the point of use even better.
It's been costed, and apparently correctly, so I see nothing absurd at all.
But your comments to me show you don't want a debate so fair enough.

posted on 16/11/19

No, what’s absurd is that it’s the only solution to the issue of rural coverage, or lack thereof.

posted on 16/11/19

Of course it's not. But a private company won't be doing it for free. Of course we could pay them, but it would cost more.

posted on 16/11/19

There is cost associated with both options, ultimately.

I think the point is that regulation is a far more effective solution imo than nationalisation.
