Curran and now Wood doing a Buttler here with Pope keeping things ticking over at the other end
Root reversing the declaration after the no ball banter
This is embarrassing for SA
Shame we couldn't a bit more of Pope enjoying himself with some ridiculous shots but he finishes 121* pushing his average up to 49.85
Some fun cameos and we've managed to construct a very good first innings score, built on patient and proper test match batting at the top.
I do worry about our attack but at least they've got some scoreboard pressure to work with.
Think they’re come in when we hit 500

Excellent
England scared of scoring 500 still
Philander Watch - Updated
First 3 innings on this tour when SA were on top:
Philander bowled 50 overs out of 237, 21% of the overs
Last 2 innings when England are on top
Philander bowled 30 overs out of 263, 11% of the overs
Philander should retire now.
England have batted SA out of the game.

I think you will need to see how SA bat on this pitch.
Yeah think an SA win here is out the window.
The old don't judge until both teams have had a bat comes to mind. Elgar and Malan are both stubborn batsmen and could just as easily put on a frustrating partnership that mirrors or even betters what we managed.
Well, we're not gonna lose. Put it that way.
Well in the driving seat we really should win this from here...
Yes, but if RSA dig in then a draw is still a distinct possibility. It's probably either a draw or an innings victory, not much room in between.
We'll need Wood to bring some firey spells and Bess to bring threat and not just control.
The draw is still the favoured result with the bookies, just, with an England win not far behind.
I'm going to stay positive
