I'm intrigued as to what TOOR thinks that Spurs fans who use this word should be educated on and what qualifies him to make that judgement.

I suspect the truth is that he's the one who needs an education on the subject.

Oh give it a rest TOOR.

In response to me saying it isn't illegal, you came back and said that Spurs fans have been arrested for saying it.

You were clearly of the view that it was an arrestable offence. You were wrong and like always, you can't just acknowledge it and admit you didn't realise that the situation had changed.

And you did claim they need educating ffs! You literally said it:

"I would stop telling Spurs fans that it's OK to use a racial slur that Jewish people find offensive and start educating"

Why would you say 'i'd educate them' if you don't think they need educating? Facking hell.

"No I don't. I believe that if Jewish groups around the world, FIFA, Scotland Yard etc. say a racial slur shouldn't be used, then it shouldn't."

And what about if the Met Police say it can be used?

As ever, you just don't have it in you to concede ground, even when what you've said is blatantly wrong.

And I ask again... do you think the Jewish Spurs fan using the word should be educated?

Why can't you answer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I stated what Scotland Yard said. I literally posted a quote from them.

Yes I said that's what I would do, after you asked me if I would arrest fans. It wasn't a statement of fact about how to fix the issue, it was my opinion on what I would do in the situation.

If the Met Police say it can be used then you'd think it wasn't illegal to use it but I've seen no evidence of that and I believe Scotland Yard overrule met police anyhow. Regardless ive seen no evidence of that. Ultimately that wouldn't matter to the Jews around the world who find it offensive, they just want it to stop.

No one is making a distinction.

We're discussing a very specific set of circumstances and addressing those.

Nothing qualifies me. I was just answering your question on what I would do. I said I would educate rather than arrest.

As I said to you yesterday, you don't need a degree on a topic to have an opinion, otherwise a debating forum would be a very quiet place.

Yes, you posted what Scotland Yard said AS PART of your comment. You were clearly implying that this is an arrestable offence and clearly suggested that the only reason fans aren't arrested is because it would need an army to do it.

You thought it was arrestable based on a statement you found. You now know that's incorrect and the situation was changed several years ago.

"but I've seen no evidence of that and I believe Scotland Yard overrule met police anyhow."

Maybe it's YOU who needs educating on the subject.

Don't you see that telling Spurs fans they need educating on this is arrogant?

What qualifies you to say that? Has it occurred to you that many Spurs fans know a lot about this subject and have made a conscious decision to continue using the word?

Oh and for the 4th time...

Do you think the Jewish Spurs fan using the word should be educated?

Although I'll turn this around to you.

What qualifies you to tell Jews around the world who are offended by the use of a derogatory term, that they shouldn't be offended as less the 5% of the people using the word, who are Spurs fans, have reclaimed the word?

I suspect you need to take in the opinions of other people, especially those affected, rather than once again believe that you have the one and only opinion that matters.

Well it's not convenient, it's just a fact.

You're trying to compare a unique situation with a hypothetical situation, when in reality the comparison makes no sense.

On what basis then?

Seems to me that the basis for that statement is that some Jewish people are offended.

Don't you think Spurs fans know that already?

The whole point is it has reclaimed the word. A bit like gay people calling themselves quweer. If someone is offended they are not really understanding it. Like the WJC sat in NY who have probably never been to a football match in their life.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It hasn't reclaimed the word. Spurs fans aren't Jews. You can't reclaim the word if you aren't Jewish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Many are.

So what's your view on a Jewish person using the word?

Arrest them as well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't arrest anybody. I would stop telling Spurs fans that it's OK to use a racial slur that Jewish people find offensive and start educating. It is not necessarily their fault as at the time their education was that it was fine to use it as others called them it anyhow. However this has stopped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Question:

Why do you, a Liverpool fan have such an issue with this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't have an issue with it. As I said before, it doesn't bother me that Spurs fans sing it and I don't deem it racist or anything as I understand the history. As I have repeatedly stated, it's the Jewish community that have an issue with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you're making a lot of noise over this issue.

Are you Jewish, do you have Jewish family members or have any close ties with the Jewish community?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not making noise at all. I'm offering my view on the debate, which is what the forum was designed for.

I have only ever met one Jew in my life, who is my employee. I've never asked him for his view on it, as it has never come up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Asked him the question. He said he doesnt give a crap if they use the word, they always have and he has a thick skin. Although he did ask me why it is only coming up now and when I told him the reason he thought it was hilarious that Spurs fans now feel they have a right to use it as their name appeared in the dictionary under it.

That last statement is a bit of an invention, TOOR.

Most Spurs fans I know think they have a right to use it because of the government stance (David Cameron's statement in particular).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are you talking about? I'm going with Scotland Yard over you and I'm sorry if you can't see why but that's your arrogance again.

Yes in my opinion I would solve the issue through education rather than arrests. If that's wrong, it's wrong, that's my opinion. I'm not responsible for it, so no harm done.

I've addressed the question you keep asking. You're not getting a different answer just because you keep asking it.

Scotland Yard is the HQ of the Met Police you dullard.

The Met Police, following government advice, confirmed that it is not an arrestable offence at White Hart Lane.

What are you not understanding here?

And yes it's your opinion. But when you tell people that they need an education on something, it's best that you are knowledgeable on the subject yourself. Clearly you are not.

And no, you haven't answered my question. You've repeatedly dodged it.

Yes or no; does a Jewish Spurs fan using this word need educating?

No, you're declaring I've made statements I haven't, refusing to accept the opinions I have, calling people stupid and generally not allowing anybody to have an opinion that doesn't match yours.

All I've said is I don't believe Spurs fans should use a word that Jewish people find offensive and my way of solving this would be education, rather than arrests. If you can't accept my opinion, fine but that's all I'm going to say on this matter as you've clearly killed the debate for everyone by not allowing them an opinion. I know you won't accept this but sometimes you need to think about how many people tell you the same thing, rather than denying it. read over the thread, several people have already left the debate as you didn't allow them an opinion.

Enjoy talking to yourself, as the last is gone too.

"whilst simultaneously accusing everyone who posts something you don't like of 'whataboutery'."

I accused one person of it.

And mine isn't whataboutery. I'm giving examples of how things you do offend people but it doesn't mean that the thing being done is necessarily wrong, that's all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So, for example, one white guy calling a load of white guys a bunch of "n*****s" isn't offensive? Or is it? If it doesn't offend the people being called it, is it offensive?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s just not socially acceptable
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But if it was chanting inside a stadium amongst a fanbase with a history withing the black community it would be?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s never acceptable

TOOR you can be a real pillock at times.

I'm not declaring statements - I'm inferring things from what you have said. You need to understand that your words have meaning.

So when you say that Spurs fans who use this word need an education, it's a reasonable conclusion that this includes Jewish Spurs fans who use this word.

That isn't declaring a statement, that is interpreting and applying what you've said.

You've shown that you're woefully uneducated on this subject yourself and I suspect you've decided it's time to run away because you're embarrassed that you didn't even know that Scotland Yard is the HQ of Met Police.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but equally I'm entitled to debate that opinion. You have a very black and white view on the world and this is an example where you've made a decision about your opinion and so you'll point blank refuse to accept any other view.

I don't know why you use a forum when you are so incapable of admitting when you really don't know what you're talking about.

Fack me, the lack of understanding and the inability for people to educate themselves before debating a subject like this is astounding.
