The silencing of the whistleblower doctors was a royal fackup, but it was ordered by local authorities, not the central government: as soon as the story emerged, Beijing sacked the local head of the CCP responsible for the arrests.
------
China has local, regional/provincial, and national/central levels of government. Usually, those in positions of power try to contain or cover up such things in order to position in power.
There was an issue not too long ago with pigs from one area affected with a disease covered up the illness until others noticed it. The local government, in order to protect the locals economy didn't say anything until too late. This seems a common thing with the local governments in China.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then you can imagine what its like for foreign or international institutions when dealing with China. They do it to themselves, they'll do it worse to others. With WHO having no real powers to enable them to proceed on their own then things will never change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the lack of knowledge of how the Chinese government functions at different levels is an issue for some discussing this issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbh I think it's such an enigma on so many levels that it takes quite some time to grasp just how different their set up is. Ethically and culturally they just operate on a different plain.
It's almost mind blowing. I loved my time in China but you have to adjust and understand the differences quickly if you want to enjoy your day to day life there.
Even comparing their friends Russia's set up, it's vastly different in so many ways. It's so crazy it doesn't even surprise me that people don't or wI'll not believe how things operate.
Putting his name on the cheques is an abuse of power.

He'll 100% get a second term
....
No he won’t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He will. He’s the Mourinho of the world leaders. The rest of the league and their fans hates him but his own followers will back him to the hilt.
How this will pan out in my opinion is as follows.
- Trump cuts funding to WHO and blames them for the number of deaths worldwide. The money saved will either stay in the treasury or be spent on additional PPE for the US saving lives
- WHO with a reduced income can no longer supply poorer countries with vital PPE when they are inevitably hit by Covid19
- Hundred’s of thousands more die outside of the US
- Trump is “justified” in his decision over the “corrupt” WHO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The WHO will have no bearing on the US Election.
Unfortunately fog Trump he needs more than his base support to win the election.
And he is losing some of them in places like Florida. Even where I live the Trump signs and flags are coming down.
Putting his name on the cheques is an abuse of power .

Just wish their was a good Democratic candidate. Someone who could effectively counter Trump's mudslinging style .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2 party system plays right into the GOPs hands.
There is almost no similarity between someone like Sanders and Biden, so frictions are created long before the actual elections.
You need a left, centre and right.

Still millions voted for him and will vote for him again.
Just wish their was a good Democratic candidate.
.....
They don’t need one for this election. They just need to be a united party, which they appear to be right now. Especially with Bernie getting behind Biden.
He was never really behind Clinton.

It probably helps to have a candidate that can actually speak properly, listening to these 2 debate is gonna be interesting.

And millions will not and he can not afford to lose any.
Trump will not get new voters.
He won Florida by a few thousand votes. If he loses Florida he will likely lose the election.
If Florida voted now he would lose it by a landslide. The Republicans would lose most of their Senate and House seats. Their Republican Governor won’t win next time round either.

Where do you live out of interest ?
Ji was right in what he said about the two party system. I bring the idiocy of this up when ever I talk with people on the subject.
What Ji didn’t say is that there are a lot of people in the USA who register as an independent voter. They don’t align to either party, they vote for who ever they feel has the best policy at the time.
I think that is how every one should be.
It was these voters who carried Trump to the win. Not his base support who were Republican anyway.
It probably helps to have a candidate that can actually speak properly, listening to these 2 debate is gonna be interesting.

On the Chesapeake Bay. My State is Democrat but the area I live in is Trump country.
Well, it was, not so much any more. All my golfing buddies are Republicans and they are not going to vote in the next election.
Apparently not all Republicans are as dumb as rocks. Just Trumps hard core base.

I was in the US for my brother’s wedding in 2017 as his wife is American.
Spent a week in Texas, where they were married, followed by a week in NYC. I remember thinking how incredibly polarised it was. Was chatting to a bloke at the bar of a diner in Texas who was a massive Trump fan and hated Obama. Then in New York when I’d chat to the locals some would say, ‘please don’t judge us, we’re not all like Trump’
People were generally very friendly through though
