No way Zidane and Raul were overated. Both were top class..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't get either of these opinions.
If anything Raul is underrated tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raul isn’t overrated imo. He’s regarded as one of the top 10 strikers of his era, which is about right. No one considers him an all-time great.
Zidane on the other hand is regarded a Top 5-10 player in history, which is ridiculous.
Tbf, Robson played a lot of games with the likes of Russell Beardsmore, Ralph Milne, Remy Moses, Liam O’Brien and Peter Barnes alongside him in midfield.
He had Strachan and in later years a few better players like Ince around him, but otherwise we aren’t talking players in their same league as the likes of Scholes, Veron, Butt or McClair, never mind those Keane got to feed.
Griezmann. Tougher version of Walcott.
Oh, my bad. Forgot it was players from the past.

From what I’ve seen so far, Sancho seems a bit overated. So far...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You haven’t seen Sancho then 😂 because he’s absolutely smashing it and giving no one a reason to feel he’s overrated. That doesn’t mean he’ll become the best ever. But where he’s at right now in terms of performances is a very good level.
Zidane was arguably the best player I saw till messi and ronaldo. Not that I saw him all the time. But to terrorise teams like that Brazil side etc is unreal
Why GNev was so good (comment from a while back) is he transcended eras and styles. Was a competent full back in the days when they were more defence focused and then transitioned into a well rounded fullback who was useful going forward.

Stop talking. You are an idiot.
From utd the most overrated player for me was Carrick. He never really took charge in games and disappeared when under the kosh.
Scholes was dynamite but I get why some say he is overrated now.
I think the makeup of the team does help and hinder players. What I mean is what LFC fans love about Gerrard can also be seen as lack of discipline in another team, see England performances to a degree .
Same can be said about shearer at nufc. A great goal scorer but how much did it hinder the team that he was the focus? If that is the case then his achievement is overrated as it didn't benefit the team overall, if that makes sense
He never really took charge in games

"What I mean is what LFC fans love about Gerrard can also be seen as lack of discipline in another team, see England performances to a degree ."
I'm confused, what does this mean?
What Liverpool fans love about Gerrard as he was a world class player, probably the best in the history of the club who could do everything and play anywhere. Who was an all round player, pace, tackling, heading, shooting, passing, aggression, never say die attitude and then when his legs had gone he was able to move back and do the job of spraying the passes around, keeping the ball moving and still get nominated for POTY and get into the team of the season.
I'm not sure how Gerrard, one of the most disciplined players I've seen can be accused of a lack of discipline? I'm not sure how England performances highlight this?

You can believe whatever you like but I used to watch a lot of the sky la liga coverage in the early 2000’s and inevitably meant a lot of RM and Barca.
There were a lot of games, and I really do mean a lot of games, where he was on the periphery rather than pulling the strings. He’d inevitably have 1 or 2 moments of absolute quality even when playing poorly but there were a lot of poor games.

People are comparing the goalscoring of likes of Figo and Nedved to wingers nowadays who are basically forwards, when they actually played on the wing and their main job was to create.
......................................................................
I think this is an issue with modern fans, you see all these threads on Twitter about various players who are overrated and they don't take into account, or just simply aren't aware, of the development of football throughout the years, how tactics, coaching, transfers, sports-science, an even positions have even changed.
They also put modern day standards on players and teams, one I saw on Reddit was that Arsenal's title winners of 2004 weren't that good because they "only" won it with 90 points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I said Figo and Nedved had poor strike rates and I think they are/were overrated, Figo particularly.
I can go find many wingers from that era, and even before, who simply scored more.
Figo in particular I never got the fuss about and I'd put Barnes comfortably above both of them.
