Brilliant, isn't it.
I think TOOR is influenced by two things.. firstly, he's massively biased, and secondly the impact that each player has had on their team.
The likes of Scholes, Ferdinand, Campbell etc. were part of much better teams / defences.
VVD had a huge impact on Liverpool - not because he's better than anyone before him in the PL, but because Liverpool's defence was pretty poor.

Longevity is certainly an argument, there's no disputing that and if that is high up your criteria then you can't put VVD top. There was no criteria put forward however, so I would go for VVD, as his top level is better than the others.

I feel VVD may have left it too late to be number 1 even once his career is done. Trophy wise individually and as a team he is so far behind other players. Lets be honest some of these players have had sensational seasons (JT, carvahlo, rio, vidic, vvd) so put someone 1 after just 1 season is ridiculous. He needs to do it for 5 or more to catch up imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree. We’re talking about a player who is competing with Lionel Messi for the Ballon D’orr.
No premier league defender has reached his level. PFA player of the year, CL, Ballon D’orr runner up.
Got 2 and a half seasons now, he’s been the top defender on the planet.
This talk of “he needs to do it for 5 years” is up there with “Messi has to win a World Cup”. It’s a nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
John Terry some of for longer for starters. Like I say people have short memories. A perfect storm of vvd coming in and changing Liverpool’s defensive issues (along with TAA, Allison, Robertson) and a strange few years of voting (Modric, vvd) means he got put in as a ballon dor contender. John Terry’s individual awards far outstrip his(UEFA defender of the year three times) and thst was while being universally disliked and could argue he deserved more recognition, especially domestically, so forgive me for not disagreeing with you but it’s not nonsense.

I think that's a fair comment. If you think about the top ten and their best attribute, VVD is as good, if not better at all of them. Adams heading, Ferdinand pace, Terry, Carragher, last ditch blocks and leadership, Carvalho ability on the ball etc. VVD is as good if not better than all of them, he has no real weaknesses.

Let's say you name another 7, that still puts him at 15 of all time.
Looks like I was right.
No you wouldn’t lol wtf you on about. Try conceding only 15 goals with paulo ferreria at rb lol.
liverpool have the best team in the world so people acting like vvd is doing it in some budget team but other teams were doing it in some outlandish solid teams that didn’t concede goals is ridiculous.
Terry, Rio, kolo and Campbell for a few years all played a similar or higher levels for longer.
It’s just the Liverpool media bias in response to Liverpool having a poor defence previously and their continued improvement under Klopp seems to be skewing people’s minds.
Liverpool fans will tell you they have the best lb, rb and gk in the world but then claim that vvd does it on his own and that people like terry and Rio only done it because they were in great defences

I think I’m going to leave this debate here. Hahaahahaha

I think it's a fair argument, longevity. If we're placing longevity high up the criteria, then of course Terry would be ahead of VVD. If you're just going by who reached the highest level, then you'd go with VVD.

It's not incorrect TOOR.
How many other right backs in the history of football are better than all other right backs from the PL era?
Not that many, I'd wager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Many.
I'll have a quick go.
Lahm
Thuram
Alves
Cafu
Zanetti
Maicon
Carlos Alberto
And that's only off the top of my head and from the last 30 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you named 7.
