Liverpool are not one of the best teams to have ever played in the league. Most consistent yeah, but not the best quality-wise. United 06-09 would rip current Liverpool to shreds.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
rubbish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Van Der Sar, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez... Incredible team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alisson, VVD, TAA, Robertson, Mane, Salah, Firmino...
Incredible team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the same calibre of players
Vds > Alisson
Rio AND Vidic > VVD
Evra > Robertson
etc. etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please don't tell me you're delusional enough to disagree with those comparisons
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course I disagree.
This Liverpool team would destroy that United team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't believe I actually have to do this
VDS > Alisson
Evra > Robertson
Ferdinand > Van Dijk
Vidic >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gomez
Brown/Neville < Trent
Carrick > Hendo
Scholes > Wijnaldum
Hargreaves > Fabinho
Ronaldo > Salah
Rooney > Firmino
Tevez = Mane
There we go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hilarious. A Liverpool side with Dossena and Aurelio smashed pretty much this United side 4-1 at OT, yet they’d rip the current Liverpool side to shreds?!
This Liverpool side is far better.
“When you look at most of the recent winners in the CL, can you actually say that there are any other sides from that particular season that are better than who actually won it? I think Liverpool getting into the final two years on the bounce, and especially Real winning it 3 times on the trott, both throw weight behind a claim they were best club at the time. But if we’re going to say just making the final means you’re up there were Spurs the second best team in Europe last year? No disrespect to them, but of course they weren’t, just as Liverpool weren’t the year before. As I say it’s a cup competition, not a definitive measure of the strongest team in European football each year. If you do the cl and league double you’ve got a fair bit of weight behind that claim I suppose.

It's not a ridiculous claim, that United team would furrrk this current Liverpool team up, no doubt at all.

Which you don't have. Plus you were about five years old in 2009. You have no idea how good that team was.
I've already told you I wasn't five years old, so yes, I do know how great that United team was. It was better than this current Liverpool team for sure, who stand in a poorer era compared to the one that United team played in.

We aren't talking about finalists, we are talking about winners. My point is, generally, the best team in Europe wins the CL, it doesn't matter who they face in the final. As I say, the only real exception to this would be Chelsea beating Bayern in 2012 within the last decade.
I know Man City won the PL last season so that argument could be said, but I bet if you asked teams in Europe who they'd rather face, Man City or Liverpool, I bet they'd say Man City imo.

You talk like Man City are the greatest team this planet has ever seen, they have recorded over 100 points in a season and then 98 the following season. Not to mention that out of the last 4 European finals (CL and EL from the previous 2 seasons), 5/8 teams have been from England. A bit linear to say its a poorer era in terms of quality though isn't it.

I would say that Spurs were the 2nd best team in Europe last season, that's why they got that far. I know people say "you can only beat what's in front of you" when referring to Ajax, but they've had to have got past some good sides on the way (like they did in the form of Juve and Real Madrid) and so did Spurs in a group with Barcelona, Inter as well as beating Man City in the knockout stages.
I do think there is a degree of context, but overall I'd say the best team in that competition wins it.

So you think Spurs were the second best team in Europe last year for finishing runners up in a 13 game cup competition, although they ended up 4th in the 38 game domestic league, more than 20 points behind the top 2? I disagree, but each to their own.

Liverpool are not one of the best teams to have ever played in the league. Most consistent yeah, but not the best quality-wise. United 06-09 would rip current Liverpool to shreds.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
rubbish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Van Der Sar, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez... Incredible team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alisson, VVD, TAA, Robertson, Mane, Salah, Firmino...
Incredible team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the same calibre of players
Vds > Alisson
Rio AND Vidic > VVD
Evra > Robertson
etc. etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please don't tell me you're delusional enough to disagree with those comparisons
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course I disagree.
This Liverpool team would destroy that United team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't believe I actually have to do this
VDS > Alisson
Evra > Robertson
Ferdinand > Van Dijk
Vidic >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gomez
Brown/Neville < Trent
Carrick > Hendo
Scholes > Wijnaldum
Hargreaves > Fabinho
Ronaldo > Salah
Rooney > Firmino
Tevez = Mane
There we go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hilarious. A Liverpool side with Dossena and Aurelio smashed pretty much this United side 4-1 at OT, yet they’d rip the current Liverpool side to shreds?!
This Liverpool side is far better.
