When Ziyech join, he'll be World Class too

Players who would walk into any team in the world

posted on 26/5/20

Being "world class" implies having enough quality to walk into any side on the planet and commanding a starting spot.

Slightly trickier for a keeper, but you get my point.

Yeah, it's not a literal 'walk into any team in the world' but i get the idea.

Anybody who can compete with the best in the world.

So one player per role, 11 in total at any time?

In theory at least.

I don't make the rules. That's the way it goes with meaningless terms such as this.

You did make the rule though

Being one of the top players in your position in world football.

But then again, we're probably best off just referring to Stretty's thoughts on the matter... (If someone can find *that* thread - you know the one).

Yeah, strangely I would go with your definition over some people who say it's being the best in your position. I mean you can have five world class players in one position but you have to drop four of them as one is better.

For me in the PL:-

Alisson
Ederson
De Gea

TAA
Robertson
VVD
Laporte

Kante
De Bruyne

Sterling
Salah
Mane
Firmino
Aguero
Kane
Aguero
Aubameyang

I think Fernandes will join this list, in time.

Ederson world class but not Alisson?

D Silva is no longer world class. I don't think Aubameyang is either (very good though).

I'd say Mane is and Bruno needs to produce for longer at the highest level to be considered.

I'd agree with the rest.

Aguero twice

Fair assessment although even without United bias it's possibly a bit generous to include TAA (for now anyway) & Firmino.

I don't think it's generous to include the world's best right back. Firmino may be a shock to some as he doesn't produce the numbers of an out and out striker but it's what he does for the team when you actually watch him play, as well as the decent numbers he posts which make him world class, in my opinion. Not many players can do what he does.

Firmino is very generous to include. If not delusional.

Ederson but no Alisson

Still think Trent can be got at defensively and wouldn't find it as easy if he played in a lesser side.

Great attacking full back though.

Firmino again fits the system perfectly but put him in any PL side outside of Pool & City and he doesn't stand out at all imo

I'm not surprised you include him, it's normally managers and in general people who understand football that rate him highly.

Poch the most recent to sing his praises.

Poch, Mourinho, Klopp, Wenger, Gary Neville, Kaka and Thierry Henry have all called Firmino among the best in the world lately.

posted on 26/5/20

Firmino isn't among the best in the world. He's a few levels below someone like Lewandowski.

Yeah I think the TAA can be got at defensively is a lazy cliche, harking back to previous seasons, whilst he was breaking though. He has improved massively in a defensive sense but also going forward. He just keeps getting better.

Firmino is a fair point but I think if you put him in any team who likes to play football he's a massive asset, the pressing, the hold up play, the bringing other players in, the selfless runs, as well as his goals and assists.

Don't Liverpool want to replace Firmino with Timo Werner anyway?

posted on 26/5/20

I've always thought of Firmino as a player who does the donkey work for Salah and Mane. I don't think you need to be a great player to play his role.

posted on 26/5/20

Firmino is a very good player who fits Liverpool wonderfully and I know that game isn't all about stats but he would need to score and assist more to be world class and he's almost gone backwards this season in that sense.

I think any player in the top 5 in their position can be considered world class.
