I'm not saying there aren't differences but they're not THAT different either. Both sets of parents willing left their child(ren) alone to go out drinking. The Teeside lady not having the misfortune which the McCann's had of having a predator nearby.
The Teeside child was said to have been alone for half an hour and the NSPCC said ""Children of such a young age are entirely dependent on their parents to provide basic care for their needs."
If we spin this and Maddie hadn't been taken and this news story broke about middle-class parents leaving their kids alone I'm sure people would be harsher on them. I don't think being harsh about their actions but also being sympathetic as to the result are mutually exclusive positions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They are completely different.
They didn't 'go out drinking' - they were sat at a table in the same place, across from the apartment.
Earlier in the thread I said that when I was younger, my parents would leave me and my brother in a hotel room while they went down to the bar.
Hotel had a listening service and it was commonplace across British hotels back then.
Were they negligent?
So easy to retrospectively judge, is all I'm saying.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but advocating that the other two children are taken into care?
Facking hell, there's some bizarre people in this world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll be honest here and say I think that they couldn't have really had much of a complaint had their other children been put into care.
A quick Google search gives me this story - https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/mum-who-left-son-4-17451048 - where a key line is 'Care proceedings relating to the woman's children were said to be ongoing and she was having supervised contact.'
There's really not much difference between what the McCann's did and her other than social class IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf there are differences. The McCanns were in the same complex at a holiday resort in an area which should be safe - not saying they were right to leave the kid alone but this woman in your example went into town and to a pub miles away from the home.
Neither family comes off great in these stories but the McCanns made a mistake which they’ll have to live with forever. They’ll never leave their kids again and to take their remaining kid(s) away doesn’t really help anyone except the voracious haters out there who want their pound of flesh.

When I used to go to Blackpool with my parents I would be left alone with a £1 for the TV slot in the room whilst they went out for a drink. I was only around 10 or 11 at the time so was a little older though. I know it happened.
Take away the fact she was abducted for a second now. (I think I've made my views clear on that on the thread. In all probability having seen the Netflix doc and read a few things I don't think they were involved. ). I don't think leaving a 3 yo and younger children alone is sensible whatever the circumstances. I don't think you do too either unless I'm mistaken. They could easily have afforded a child minder or just simply had the kids with them while they ate/drank.

Absolutely agree.
But I don't think the moral judgement is particularly fair and the ranting from some, asking for their kids to be put into care etc... is unbelievable.
A baying mob.
The reality is that things have changed in terms of how we perceive these dangers now, so people are judging something that happened 13 years ago based on how they feel now.
I'm not going to debate it all day with people - some have ludicrously strong opinions and for me, it's just a typical social media reaction... over the top, angry etc.

No, I think that none of us know.
I think that if the parents killed her, it's very likely that evidence would have been found.
I think that speculating the parents killed her, on social media, when there's no evidence that is the case, is a pretty despicable thing to do.
Now, the fact that I needed to explain that confirms that there's no chance of a decent conversation on this subject so I'll leave it here.

Yes probably. Had I been caught doing it I'd be bang to rights too. I'm just lucky I haven't been caught.
If you have broken the speed limit with your kids in the back then you are far worse than the McCanns as more children die in car accidents caused by excessive speed than from being abducted from hotels.
Who here is willing to admit that they are worse than the McCanns?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone know the relevant risk factors of the two ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Id imagine the likelihood of a child left alone in a holiday complex and being abducted by a paedophile who also has a skillset in burglary is a lot lower than an accident caused by a parent speeding.
Speeding with kids in the car and leaving young kids in an apartment alone are both examples of bad parenting.
They're also examples of bad parenting that if the end result doesn't end in disaster most people will get away with as well.

I think that's the point that people are trying to make. But if the people here showing no empathy have never broken the speed limit then that's fine. They are not hypocritical. I doubt they'll answer though to avoid suspicion.
ive broken the speed limit with my kids in the car, maybe done 35 in a 30, but i dont break it if im at high speed

----------------------------------------------------------------------
no no no Robb... they didnt make a mistake at all... they made a CHOICE
----------------------------------------------------------------------
tell me Robb.... their child went missing and is probably dead after they CHOSE to leave her and her younger siblings alone while they went out enjoying themselves.... now it could have been one of the three that went missing..... so tell me.. why exactly did they deserve to keep their other 2 children that they put at just a great a risk as maddie
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tell me what taking the other kids away would achieve?
Are the McCanns likely to leave their other kids alone ever again? Nope.
Have some empathy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
what it would achieve?
it would ensure they never fecking done it again ( because it certainly wasnt the first time)
as for emapthy..i'd have more empathy for the shiiiite on my shoe, they deserve fack all empathy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that says more about you than anything else really. I hope you apply those standards consistently in all areas of your life.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
When I used to go to Blackpool with my parents I would be left alone with a £1 for the TV slot in the room whilst they went out for a drink.

I came on this thread to debate the idiots who walk around saying 'I think they killed her'.

Oh dear.
How embarrassing that you don't understand.
There's a big difference between debating people who say they killed her and actually arguing that they didn't.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but advocating that the other two children are taken into care?
Facking hell, there's some bizarre people in this world.

i wouldnt leave my kids alone like that Robb....EVER
when you have kids you adjust your life to make sure they are safe and looked after at all times, especially at that age.
if you go on holiday and you get to a night time and your kids are tired... then tough.. you dont go out.
ANY decent parent would do the same

Absolutely agree.
But I don't think the moral judgement is particularly fair and the ranting from some, asking for their kids to be put into care etc... is unbelievable.
A baying mob.
The reality is that things have changed in terms of how we perceive these dangers now, so people are judging something that happened 13 years ago based on how they feel now.
I'm not going to debate it all day with people - some have ludicrously strong opinions and for me, it's just a typical social media reaction... over the top, angry etc.

Jesus wept.
No, I think that none of us know.
I think that if the parents killed her, it's very likely that evidence would have been found.
I think that speculating the parents killed her, on social media, when there's no evidence that is the case, is a pretty despicable thing to do.
Now, the fact that I needed to explain that confirms that there's no chance of a decent conversation on this subject so I'll leave it here.

iv never known you have a decent convo anyway winston so just aswell.
as for evidence that links them.. im guessing there was plenty which was why they were classed as suspects in the first place... just saying.
in fact there is probably more evidence pointing to them than any other suspect.

That's fair enough Winston. I don't want a long debate either really. I have work to do!
I did say the same thing in 2007 though that I thought they were irresponsible although I am happy to distinguish between their action and the result here.

If you have broken the speed limit with your kids in the back then you are far worse than the McCanns as more children die in car accidents caused by excessive speed than from being abducted from hotels.
Who here is willing to admit that they are worse than the McCanns?

Even though you're jesting you're not actually wrong here. As a parent you need to act responsibly in all situations in order to keep the children safe.
