There is something not right about the McCanns. They are hiding something. But I suspect it is more likely to hide the level that they neglected their children rather than hiding the fact that they were actually involved.
++
this is exactly how I feel Elvis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I've only seen them in the circumstance on TV talking about the disappearance of the daughter, and having to admit they left them alone, I found it impossible to judge them. They didn't seem like people I would take to, but that's a good portion of the population.
You and I will have to disagree with this. I know what you mean I just think it needs re phrasing a bit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How would you rephrase it?
.......
Like this
The blame is two fold here. Obviously the abductor is responsible for committing the crime. Likewise the parents were responsible for leaving the child alone to enable the abductor the ease to commit the crime.
They didn't seem like people I would take to,
+++
Funny that. They do seem like people I would take to. Clever, educated, professional, northern...
But then they talk in the media, moreover talk about Maddie... and something doesn't sit right about them. Like they are hiding something. Its what they are not saying which speaks loudly to me.
If you pull up to traffic lights and you have the back window open a bit when your kid is in the back then you are to blame if someone snatches your child and murders them to death. If you leave your back window open you are a murderer. Have you left your back window open?

And if this German guy is who did it.. you’ll have to accept you read the whole thing incorrectly. Which is what this whole article is about and what MU52 is saying. That maybe just maybe a large swathe of the population made up their mind without knowing the facts - in yours and VC’s own words because they looked a bit off. And because of that judgment by the public they’ve been subjected to some evil taunts and abuse.

If you can't say then it's down to the fact that you don't like the look of them,it's the old first 5 seconds of seeing someone gives you a lasting impression of them.
You didn't take to them initially,so no matter what they are culpable in your eyes

I've always found it very odd that the parents refused to answer 48 questions the Portugese police asked them.
If my lad was missing I wouldn't be picking and choosing who's questions I answered.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bit misleading that.
She’d already had a full day of question two days earlier and then she was made an official person of interest, so her lawyer advised her not to answer more questions.
Hard to say how we’d all react in that situation, in a foreign country, with a police investigation clearly not at the level it should be or that we would expect.

Earlier on apparently they went through 24-36 hours of questioning and had answered all questions asked of them.
Then they were given them same questions again,but under advisement of a solicitor were advised to give no comment answers to the exact same questions

I am a parent.
I’m not being holier than thou. I’m taking the position that I think is sensible, right and decent.
+++
so you don't think they were bad parents for going to the pub and leaving them in bed?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weren't they in a tapas restaurant that was on the very same site as their apartment.What's all this nonsense about being in a pub?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was at the other side of the pool complex but almost in sight of the apartment. You should watch the Netflix series on it, very interesting.
I’m not sure what to believe. I can see why as a parent myself they’d want to head out, in what they though was safety and that They could ‘see’ the apartment complex. But I don’t think I’d do that myself unless I was sitting directly out front of it.
That said there’s some pretty big contradictions throughout. So I don’t know what to believe.
Hate to say it, but I wouldn’t rule out something going very wrong and the parents somehow being at fault, but I also wouldn’t rule our someone abducting her.
In that series they had a blood dog, trained to sniff out the slightest drop go into her room, and go absolutely mental a week or so after the abduction.
All I can say is that poor little girl.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I lived in that area of the Algarve for 2 years in the mid 90's.Praia Da Luz was and always has been a family resort.Little to no nightlife in the resort,no rowdy behavior whatsoever.I would imagine a lot of parents would let there guard down in that resort,simply because it is so quiet.
The parents of Maddy let their guard down,probably like many other who have stayed at this resort,but they were the poor bastaards who paid for it.
Not making excuses for them,but unless you know that area and that particular complex you cannot understand exactly how quiet it actually is.It was always a big seller for families until that fateful evening
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well said. Only those incapable of admitting they may have been too judgmental initially would disagree with this.
That does not in any way address the fact they didn’t answer 48 questions.
Again, you not being a parent is why you don’t understand it.
Any parent who has just had a kid abducted will co operate with the police. Unless they have something to hide. You just would.
