I am a parent.
I’m not being holier than thou. I’m taking the position that I think is sensible, right and decent.
+++
so you don't think they were bad parents for going to the pub and leaving them in bed?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s that got to do with a discussion about people who say they’re guilty of killing their daughter?
so you don't think they were bad parents for going to the pub and leaving them in bed?

Any parent that doesn’t probably shouldn’t be a parent.

Maybe they aren't the best parents in the world. But they deserve endless pity, whilst assuming guilt, the guilty man deserves endless punishment.
And the rest of the quote RB&W. Is that without doubt an accepted fact? A bit cute there.

Not at all that is a theory. One a lot of people have peddled. Even the police.
They way the parents have behaved over the years also makes one doubt their credibility.

Do you mean the way the parents have been perceived to have behaved by the media.
Maddy McCanns disappearance has sold alot of newspapers and has ha a lot of TV coverage over the years.
You surely know by now that selling papers comes before the facts for most newspapers
What’s that got to do with a discussion about people who say they’re guilty of killing their daughter?
+++
Good grief.
If she was abducted I wouldn't blame the parents for that.
What I would blame them for though is not thinking of the other, everyday dangers the young children could have been in (such as choking to death on own vomit etc).
I’m not going to get into a debate about their actions and I’m not here to defend them.
What I would say is the world is very different these days and what might be regarded as abnormal now might not have been back then.
When I was a child, my brother and I would be left in a hotel room that had a listening service, when my parents were downstairs having a drink.
I can’t imagine that being considered acceptable now but it was perfectly normal then.
As I say, I’m not defending them and I only got involved to give my opinion on those who say they’re guilty, but felt it worth making this point.

You seem to be muddying what people are saying
No one is saying that the parents arent guilty of being bad parents
The argument here is that there’s no proof they killed Maddie and any debate here is solely directed at the people who said they did.

What?
You’ve totally changed the conversation.
It’s possible to believe they were negligent but reject the idea that we should walk around saying ‘I think they killed their daughter’.
What’s your problem with that?
It's not a theory based on fact, and is quite likely a false accusation.
The parents deserve pity do they not.
If the man held by the Germans is guilty he deserves the scorn does he not?
Knowing nothing about it, why would you believe the parents did it, rather than the man the police maybe?
If she was abducted I wouldn't blame the parents for that.
++
The abductor is guilty of abduction of course. But the parent has a legal, and moral, duty of care to their children.

Because for some on here 'the parents have always looked shifty'.
On that basis alone they are guilty
I see the man has been named now and more details released.
I sincerely hope he knows something and there's some kind of closure for this sorry tale.

The German police blame Christian Bruckner
The lead investigator in Portugal thinks Christian is a scapegoat

No 5hit sherlock. We all know there is no proof. Its all speculation.
The lead investigator in Portugal is pretty adamant that the McCann's are behind this. According to his book anyway an English version of which is available online.
