Football isn't immune (pardon the pun) to Covid19.
Auba is the club's most prized asset, and without him it will be much harder for the club to be successful.
If, as it seems they are able to restructure in other areas it makes sense to do so. Perfectly reasonable to assume these jobs would have been in jeopardy regardless of the transfer/wage budget.
Not really the kind of news any decent football fan would use for banter.
This really drives home just how laughable our hypothetical transfer lists are.
This transfer window will probably rival the Petr Cech one.

I agree with the first part. Just because it is a huge football club doesn't make them immune to the financial hardships happening. I work for a company worth billions of dollars but redundancies are starting to filter through world wide. The financial hits being taken are everywhere.
I'm not sure i agree with the last part though. I doubt very much that without the pandemic the jobs wouldl have been in jeopardy in any way, certainly not 55 in one go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry meant the jobs would probably been on the line anyway *because* of CV19.
It's sad for anyone losing their jobs but the priority for a club is success on the pitch. I doubt we'll be the last club to be making cuts.

Absolutely, it is a precarious time.
This is why I never really understood the outrage when clubs were starting to utilise the furlough programme. I get that some people see clubs as being rich enough to not need it, but i always felt the staff security was most important and this news shows that it is a difficult time for many businesses.

Bet £350k a week would cover it.
Sell all of ty's gear, that should cover it

You really struggle to see how smaller clubs can survive the next 12 months when a club the size of Arsenal have to make 55 redundancies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The lower leagues are going to get destroyed
Trust this news about our club to come out first and all the media then jump all over it.
I am sure 90% of all other clubs have done the same

The testing alone looks like it will be a nightmare.
Someone did the numbers recently. Every member needs two £150 standard approved tests a week. That's £300 a head, and £7500 p.w for a Matchday contingent of 25 players and staff.
The prospect of having to spend £30,000 a month on testing alone is well beyond the reach of any club outside the PL and top Championship places. Especially with no money from tickets, beer and pies coming in.
£350,000 x 52 = £18,200,000
-90% = 1,820,000
Divide that by 55 = £33,090.90
A 10% pay cut by Ozil alone would have no doubt covered those jobs
Don’t blame Mesut in the slightest as he’s bound to a contract. What Arsenal were thinking of giving it to him I can’t fathom

Any Premier League making staff redundant at the moment is an utter disgrace imo.

350k a week includes his signing on fee because before he signed that contract he was on a bosman and to keep him they had to pay his salary and signing on fee in one.
The posters on this thread are right. Arsenal should sell Aubameyang and have the best office staff around instead
What a bunch of facktards
Yeh, because selling Aubameyang or making the staff redundant are the only two options in play right now.
ffs.

The decision was probably made by board members who run the club day to day. If these staff members were essential we wouldn't have let them go, what the likes of Ozil earns isn't relevant as we can't just let them go. it's a shame but clubs are taking a bit hit so will have to cut costs.
Playing staff take a 5% cut in wages until fans allowed back in probably saves those jobs.
How about that?
