Agree with a lot of that gem but we got more points than last season and finished 7th again. The only reason that wasn’t good enough to get into Europe was because a team lower down the league won the game cup. And yes I do think we have improved. Neto and Podence are much better than Costa and Cavaleiro and many of our team grew with a years Premier League experience behind them eg Coady, Neves, Jiménez, Boly and none more so than Traore
I do agree oldgold that Fosun have earned trust and we should wait to October to see what squad we have. I just think it’s a nervous time waiting to see who they bring in and knowing that a season of going backwards could easily lead to the manager and some of the best players moving on
Waiting until October could leave us in the same position after 6 games as last year. With a reasonable start, there was every chance of CL let last year.
Sorry to rattle on about this again but I think a huge part of the issue here is communication - everything feels particularly uncertain for us at the moment because we have no idea what our strategy is and we've really been given no indication. And unfortunately I think this is something we did much better when Dalrymple and Thelwell were with us.
Gem's point is good - a season of consolidation would be absolutely fine if it allows us to push on, but we're never really given any sense of what the aim is that allows us as fans to be brought along with the clubs plans.
Is this an overhaul season? Are we looking to break top six next year with strong here and now signings? Are our stars signed up for two more years and accepting that we'll sign raw talent this summer with a view to getting everything in place for a big push the next year? Is this summer about getting a subs bench as good as the starting eleven, or about strengthening the starting eleven?
Any of the above would be fine but I think it would reassure people to have any kind of a sense of where shi sees the club and what our strategy is. Or indeed that we have a strategy. I went back over shi's recent interviews to see what could be gleaned and to be fair to him he talks about not leaping into the transfer window, continuing our approach to transfers, taking the full two months if that's needed etc, so he has been clear we shouldn't expect anything quickly necessarily.
But I read something like this and do wonder how far we actually have a transfer strategy...
“We will wait and when the time comes, we will go for it, but if we don’t see a perfect target, we have to wait – we still have two months.”
And...
“Of course, I understand our fans are keen to know the progress, but I want to assure them that we are committed to any possibility to improve our squad.”
These quotes are typical of what he says and sort of suggest we do what it looks like we do from the outside... Wheel and deal and wait and see and pick up good opportunities etc. They don't exactly suggest that we know we need a younger, rawer jiminez to develop as his replacement long term, a tricky no.10 to help us unlock games when we're struggling to break teams down etc... I. E. That we know exactly what we need after months of scouting and we're going out to get it in some form come what may because its what we need.
Ghoulam from Napoli as left wing back, and Dalot from Man Utd as right wing back seem to be the popular rumours in the media right now.
Ghoulam is 29 and has barely played the last 3 seasons, Dalot is an average player Manchester Utd are looking to offload.

Yeah Ghoulam was a highly rated individual but not really the route we want to take given how small our squad already is. Dalot is a Mendes guy and despite his struggles at United he may actually fit well.
Think it’s worth remembering that we do have a left wing back but he is going to be out for much of the Next season with injury. And we also have Vinagre who is still improving and I thought had a good game against Seville. So for that position we are just looking for someone who can come in and do a job for a year.
As for Dalot he is a highly promising player who had his progress interrupted by injury. I’d certainly be happy for us to bring him in

they have to get it in now before the season starts.

I think Dalot would fit in ok, not sure he will immediately perform to the same level as Doherty but may benefit from coaching.
Signed 21 year old Tote Gomes from Estoril. Now loaned to Grasshoppers for the coming season.
Who? Where have you seen that?

Yet another guy from Portugal. Only played 3 times for the second tier club Estoril last season and is primarily a LB.
If true, another sign that Fosun are looking to build on getting in younger players with a view to either bedding them into the first team squad eventually, or improving them at loan clubs, then selling them for a profit, which is something I read a while back.
Neto named "Young player of the season".

Hopefully this relationship with Grasshoppers will work in Wolves favour. Seems at the moment that we are providing players to help them. But if that helps the players develop into potential Wolves players of the future then maybe it will suit all parties

Sarkic, the keeper we signed from Villa, has gone to Shrewsbury on a season long loan
12 days til our season start and we haven't really started pre season as yet due to the nonsensical international break. Don't see how we are going to be up to speed early doors.
The FourFourTwo website have come up with a prediction of the Premier League outcome for the upcoming season. They predict Man City to win the title ahead of Liverpool. They tip Wolves to complete a hat trick of 7th place finishes. And they reckon Albion will finish bottom
Hardly seems fair that some clubs will have had a four week pre-season including friendlies and Nuno will get five days with his squad before Sheffield United.
I had a look at the Mol mix transfer thread but it's 180 pages of virtually unreadable pant wetting.

It really is a mess on there. JOS is awesome
As far as the bookies are concerned, they have Man City as odds on to win the title. Wolves are joint 7th with Everton and Leeds
Albion are 20th in the betting and you can get 1000/1 if you think they can win the league
Albion are favourites to be relegated ahead of Fulham, Villa and Palace
