little jeff ganbling that we get amn.
if we don't ...........
Well, there he goes. I know it's silly season for feverish speculation but even for a man of as few words as Doherty I'm surprised his departing quote isn't warmer but perhaps there's a longer version somewhere I haven't seen yet. The bad word comment is just odd though - who was suggesting he might have a bad word, feels like he's pre-empting something. But maybe I'm reading too much into it.
"My time at Wolves has been fantastic. I've not got a bad word to say about the whole club, at all. But now I feel like coming here is going to take my game and my career to the next level."
I have some concerns about the Jeff Shi empire building project, not least that I struggle to see how removing two highly experienced directors doesn't weaken the senior management team - if for no other reason than connections, think of the network thelwell and Dalrymple must have built up, Shi might be the dog's balls but still won't have that. I suppose he's reliant on Mendes but that gives him even more influence than he already has.
It's also a missed opportunity to get some fresh blood in - shu learned from Dalrymple and thelwell and doesn't have outside football experience so he's going to do things the way they did - good and bad and his imagination beyond that will be limited by his experience. Someone experienced from outside wolves would have brought fresh ideas and contacts.
The main issue though is that it underestimates just how much fans focus on a figurehead for all the negative stuff and how quickly and spectacularly that sort of damages the relationship between fans and the club. Look at Moxey and the fans - we had no idea what Moxey chose to do himself or did under Morgan's direction. He might have overachieved with limited resources and fought more from Morgan by treating to walk... or might have meekly failed to eke out more investment because he was a yes man - we don't know, but he still took all the blame. How long before Shi does the same? At least if you have visible directors responsible for certain areas they're going to share some of the flak and stop one person being the focal point.
Thanks for 10 great years Doc. Great player. Wish you all the best and hope you have 36 good games next season.
Wish Doherty all the best and I’m sure he’ll get a great reception when he plays at Molineux for Spurs (if there’s anyone in the stadium)
Have to be honest and say that after being at one club for so long I think the change will be strange for him and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he wasn’t a great success at Spurs
Agree with the concerns about Shi. Great managers in any field tend to build good teams around them rather than take the lead on everything themselves. Really hope he comes up trumps in this transfer window because it would be very easy for the club to fall away even quicker than it has grown in the last 3 years. Many media reports suggesting Nuno is holding fire on signing a new contract until Fosun show how ambitious they are in this transfer window.
Don’t share the sympathy for Moxey. Big mistake not getting rid of him sooner. After he moved on, Norwich and Burton saw through him much quicker than Wolves did
I'm not defending Moxey so much as making the point that no one for sure knows what people in those roles do - thelwell might be a better example because he got stick despite apparently being highly respected in the game (evidenced by his move I suppose). But it doesn't matter too much whether those figureheads are good or bad - my worry is more that its an unbelievable burden to be the only visible leader when things aren't going to plan and it can really sour the relationship between club and fans.
One thing I think shi doesn't do well (and is a good example of how a committee system just cannot make up for some weaknesses) is talk to the fans in a way which sounds authentic or provides actual answers - he provides the bland media lines, we want to get the stadium redevelopment right and do it at the right time, there is money for signings but we will only bring in people who make us better - but neither of those things tells us anything at all and doesn't provide the fans any confidence. Thelwell and Dalrymple seemed much more willing to sort of meet us halfway and explain some of the decisions being taken - even if it was just a general sense of our strategy.
Do the fans parliaments still happen?
I think we have grounds for a little concern, we haven't really done much in the window for 18 months or so now and isn't that around the time shi ook full control? This window is an important one and so far it doesn't seem to be going our way but we still have a month or so to get busy but we currently sit three players lighter than we did two weeks ago and we were already too light.
Fans parliament still exists but don’t think they’ve met since before the lockdown.

Damn right we have grounds for concern. The season starts in 8 days and we currently have a senior squad of 17 players, one of which has not yet turned out for the senior team.
No wonder Nuno is reluctant to sign a new contract.
Maitland Niles was available for £20m last week. Wolves tried to get him on the cheap for £15m which was turned down.
Now after his man of the match performance in the Community Shield it appears Arsenal have taken him off the transfer list
It's actually 13 days Gem, but my concern is, too many players being away on International duty before the season kicks off. Doesn't allow much time for pre season training. Only good side is, I'm sure we won' t change our system, so most of them will know what's required, plus it's gone quiet on transfers out.
With only one main player gone it just leaves us trying to find another RB. The other two hardly had any game time anyway. Let's hope we can get Nunez.
Best wishes Doc, great player for the club and improved each year with us. I can’t say I’m happy with this transfer so I hope we have players lined up. Apart from being a dependable and versatile defender, he also weighed in with a share of goals (our joint third top scorer in the Prem last season) and no doubt assists/build up play too.
I do wonder if this would have happened had we beaten Spurs to the Europa league spot..?

If we are being pedantic it's actually 15 days. The first game (and the second one) is on a Monday evening. It still doesn't make me any less concerned that we are leaving it all too late again and this is going to be another totally underwhelming transfer window. If Jeff Shi lets Nuno down with his targets he'll be looking for a replacement manager before the end of the season and the club will go backwards not forwards.
We are currently both wing backs down Wolfie. Jonny out for a long time and doc now gone. Agree MGW isn't much of a loss as of now given his general poor contribution.
If action is not taken quickly, we are in the mire.
Why do other teams get transfers done and dusted while we fart about and more often than not miss out.
If Nuno goes, I'm afraid all the promise will leave the club and supporters will vote with their feet.
Get a grip.
There's about 35 more days left before the current transfer window closes. We never do our transfers early for whatever reason. We've finished 7th in the last two season doing it this way, yet we still get posters starting to panic.
Ok, we've lost Doc and Jonny is out for a while. Vinagre will step up and with hopefully consistent starts, he'll improve the defensive side to his game.
One or two additions is all we need right now and it will be good if we can blood some of our potentially good youngsters before the next window opens in January.
Keep the faith lads.
Think we will take a step back this season personally. Managed to keep going last year which surprised me at times but just don't see it happening again. We looked jaded the last few months and have had barely any close season and still a tiny squad. I just don't see a top seven finish this time.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is just the sort of wishful thinking going through Jeff Shi's mind right now.
What a bunch of crap
We need 5 new players and we need them now not 2 weeks after the season is underway.
Take a look at the results of our first 6 games last season. We amassed 4 points from a possible 18 and that is the reason we missed out on European football this season. It's called underachieving and it is as a result of, and I quote "We never do our transfers early for whatever reason"
This has nothing to do with panic, it has everything to do with common sense.
Sorry Cinci you jumped in there. My comment above was in response to wolfie who as usual sees everything differently to everyone else!

Journey from hell today, ended up with a flat which wouldn't feckin come off the car, had sealed on from the salt and shat we get on the roads I guess, had to lower the car jack and use the cars weight to crack the seal in the end. Whole thing was a nightmare. Five min job took nigh on 2 hours
