Not so much better it sounds worth it to me, you?
Bohemians due ten percent too
Neves goals really dried up quite early on in the season. Can only recall the Man U and espanyol goals. They weren't bad mind. We all know we need more goals, there seemed to be a conscious reliance on Jimenez for goals, I got the impression that there was almost a mindset of 'Raul will get us the goals so it doesn't matter if i miss a few'. That needs to change.

I dunno, i think the 15 million mark is about right. I like Doherty but he isn't a world beater. But the timing concerns me most given the loss of Jonny.
That said, just maybe the club were looking to upgrade the position and already have a target close prior to the Jonny injury and the Spurs link was there earlier last season as well. Time will tell
Had to listen to a Leeds fan blathering on about them signing this Rodrigo geezer this evening. He was unimpressed by my assessment that they were spending money for the sake of it to show everyone how serious they're trying to be.
Can't wait for the Villa to start doing the same again, it's what makes these windows fun.
This Doherty speculation is an interesting situation. I'd love to see him stay and keep putting in the performances he's done these past few seasons but he might be at the point now where he won't keep improving and there are definitely younger players out there that can perform at his level. He gets a big move, we get a good return on our 75k investment. Everyone's a winner provided we manage to replace him adequately.
I'm not sure, I know they're a fair bit younger but Chilwell and Wan Bissaka 50m, Daniel James 15m with absolutely nothing but potential. Jonny was 15m and I would say Doherty is clearly the better player of those two. And its not like Doherty is old, he's at his peak with a good four years left in him and he was one of the best right backs in the league last year and only seems to get better season upon season. I just can't see who we can replace him with that's better at anywhere near that price (doesn't mean we're not going to spend more on an upgrade but does suggest to me it's not a great deal for us).
Finally, not conclusive by any means obviously but interesting that there's lots of comments online about spurs having got a good deal at 15m while, conversely, I haven't seen a single suggestion that 15m is overpriced.
Perhaps we have a world beating replacement lined up which doherty's sale needs to fund and he'd lose his place anyway, in which case great, but it doesn't feel like an amazing move just at the moment.
£15m for one of our best and most consistent players....
Zero positives, double would be bare minimum but he has an Irish passport instead of a UK one.
I suspect we had something in the works with Spurs for a while, like prior to Jonny injury
Sell Doc????
Surely there isn't really a replacement available for him that would cost us less than £30m.
After Jiminez and maybe Neves, I would say Doc is our most valuable player.
And Doherty is an Arsenal fan
If this is legit we really better have a big upgrade coming in given we have lost Jonny as well
I hope this Docherty sale won’t happen, but if it does we have to move on and wish him well as he has been an exemplary player for us
A nice little touch from the club- they posted me my Olympiacos away ticket as a souvenir with a letter thanking me for my support, I hope I get the chance to buy one in Europe again after this season but it sure ain’t going to be easy getting in
The Maitland Niles deal still seems to be on and Wolves also linked with the Valencia right back Correia. Looks like a new look Wolves in the wing back dept next season
I do think £15m is daylight robbery for Doc, if he was called Matthias Doch, or Dochinho you would add £10m to the fee. I do think there are replacements out there though, no idea what Correia is like, and it may just be the press making the Mendes - Valencia - Nuno connection again but as much as I hope we keep him I wouldn't say Doherty is irreplaceable.
Of all of our first team players that we thought might move on this summer I think Doc would have been way down the list. Guess he will get a signing on fee and salary that will set him up for life so good luck to him. He wasn’t a bad signing at £70k. Where he may be missed the most is that he was one of the most popular players in the dressing room. Hope whoever replaces him can be as good in both the attacking and defensive modes
I wonder if we will see Matheson next season, as isnt he a RWB? Might be that they see AMN as an upgrade with versatility and Matheson as a back up with loads of potential.
Matheson just named League One apprentice of 19/20 for his time at Rochdale. Still only 17 but hopefully we will see him this season in the Carabao Cup and maybe the first team bench. Be good to think he is the long term future of our right wing back slot
Think I'm particularly resistant to change but the other reason it doesn't make sense to me is we risk losing say one of jiminez, traore, Neves etc, even if we don't we're already talking about bringing in three or four players in a season where we have pretty much no pre-season at all, with a manager who almost always waits months to introduce new players - why would we get rid of one of the two or three players who genuinely know our system and their role absolutely inside out. Unless we're looking to switch the tactics up a bit anyway.
As much as I like Doherty and think he is excellent at pass and move football, gets in good positions and is excellent defending the back post at set pieces; he also does have his weaknesses. He has lapses in concentration defensively in open play and isnt the greatest one on one defender. He lacks a bit of pace at times.
Our system plays to his strengths, masks his weaknesses with the cover it provides and he has become a key part of it. However, he is replaceable. If we were to get close to £20 million, it is probably a great deal for someone who could become exposed elsewhere when playing another system. Particularly when you take his age into account.
AMN has more pace, can play in midfield so will be good on the ball and is younger. It could work out in our favour in the long run.
Some reports saying Doherty to Spurs is a done deal. Hope that isn’t true unless the AMN deal is also nailed on
Have we loaned Sanderson back out yet? Perhaps he is going to stick around?
Didn't know Doc is eligible for Holland as his mother is Dutch!
but he's already played for Ireland.
