If we get to the end of this window with both Jiminez and Traore that will be like making another signing. Worst comes to the worst, losing Adama would not be the disaster of losing Raul.

Spiers is saying no offers have been received for any other players. Few weeks to go yet though.

We do seem to be a wee bit top heavy with our attacking options.

Jimenez, Jota, Podence, Traore, Neto, Campana and now Silva, leaves me to believe we will be selling either Jimenez or Traore.

At least with the signing of Marcal, we have the option of playing Saiss in midfield, if required.

Wide attacking options maybe, but central strikers we're short of. Silva will provide some cover but we've been so lucky that Jimenez hasn't picked up any injuries over the last two seasons.

Sorry Goldi, but you don't spend 35m quid on a player just for cover.

So you reckon an 18 year old with 21 senior appearances to his name will start ahead of Jimenez? I've no doubt he'll be first name on the team sheet eventually but this season I'm not so sure.

Willing to bet he doesn't start 25 games

I think one of the reasons we didn't hold back on this one is because we did hold back on Felix(looks like we really could have had him) and then his price rocketed.

Yes we're in a position now where we can afford to make this kind of bold move.

I suspect Silva's first game will be the Carabao cup game against Stoke. That will keep Jimenez fresh for the Man City league game the following week.

I think that’s how Silva will be introduced and then see how it goes. I’m sure Nuno won’t have fixed ideas about who is first choice or cover, the team and formation will develop in the opening weeks of the season with the new players potentially changing the way we play based on who is playing well and what works best. Dendoncker and Podence brought us something different but not overnight. Increasing the first team squad will give us more options and should get us away from the situation we have been in before where the starting 11 picked itself

Interesting signing this Marcal. His disciplinary record makes Saiss look like a choir boy. 3 red cards last season and plenty of yellows and the scorer of a comical own goal against PSG. But also a regular in the Lyon team that got to the champions league semis so presumably he can play a bit too

sounds like a brazillian muscat.

Seems a lot of talk of us letting Vinagre go to Porto. Would seem a strange move given we have developed him to become a starter and the minute his chance arrives we let him go. Though I guess it could have something to do with the moves coming this way?!

It was originally said that Wolves would be bringing in a new midfielder today but that will evidently now be later in the week. No names confirmed yet but it’s said to be a young player on loan. Sounds disappointing that it’s not a purchase, but then again we’ve had a few good players on loan first who have later signed permanently

posted on 7/9/20

I'd be sad to see Vinagre leave, however you wonder if the club are not confident that he'll fulfill the week in week out demands of a WB in the PL and are seizing the chance to move him on for decent money before he's exposed.

Ive always thought he'd be better as a wide left sided forward but we're awash with them. All the same would leave us short of cover if he does go.

posted on 7/9/20

I’d be disappointed if Vinagre went because now seems the time when he would get chances in the first team. I thought he did well against Seville and I would certainly hope we kept him until January at least to see if he could grab the chance while Jonny is out

Benny Ashley Seal who at times was a bit of a goal machine for the U23s has signed for Northampton on a permanent transfer

I'm hoping Jonny is going to be playing RWB when he is back from injury. He is out of position really on the left and it would be a failure of our recruitment if he was still the best option there after three seasons.

Maybe Vinagre is not as settled here as the others, have no idea if he has a lot of family and friends here but just a guess, mind you he has been here a while I recall seeing him play well at Forest away, this may be controversial but I would like to see more English/ British guys coming to the club to balance things up a bit , I know they tend to be overpriced but there are some out there

posted on 7/9/20

Ok maybe one reason we don’t go for English guys often is that they can be idiots, as it would appear Foden and Greenwood have been just now

Marcal has been given the number 5 shirt. May be a sure sign that Ryan Bennett will be moving on as that was his number last season

Apparently Marcal was mainly playing left sided centre back in a back three at Lyon. He could be here to challenge Saiss more than Vinagre.

If we ended up with a back 3 of Marcal, Coady and Boly with either Saiss or Dendoncker partnering Moutinho as defensive mids and Neves pushed further forward I would quite happy with that. We have numerous permutations for a front 2 in that scenario.
I sometimes think Neves is wasted when he plays deep, with his skills he could be the key to unlocking packed defences which always seem to cause us problems. We might see a few more of his edge of the box rockets too.

posted on 7/9/20

I watched the Portugal game the other night and Moutinho played as an attacking midfielder and was captain.

Surprised that Patricio didn't start in goal and Jota seemed to be back to his best, plus scored a good goal.

Neves is a deep lying midfielder. He wouldn't be as effective further forward. We need a more attacking midfielder to afford him more space to operate. The problem at the moment is teams can press him and not worry about space between the lines.
