I'm amazed that there is supposedly no link between Liverpool's main striker have a bad season and Liverpool trying to sign a top striker. I guess it must all just be a coincidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm amazed you think a title winning team can have a passenger.

It's pretty clear you don't know what your talking about banging on like an extra goal every 8 games would mean he had a good season rather than a crap one and I could attempt to explain pressing, counter pressing and so on but it would be pointless.

Simply put anyone who thinks Lukaku would get in this Liverpool team has no business going online and talking about football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robbing, a sensible scouser, at last.

Take the manager and the rest of the team out of the equation, and which squad‘s set of forwards would you take for a neutral club over a 50+ game season - Liverpool’s, City’s or Chelsea’s (Havertz included). I’ve added a list above somewhere to aid the memory.

Interested to hear your thoughts...

Hey Rosdo,

On paper as it stands and with my less than thorough knowledge bundesliga then yeah I agree with you. Chelsea's options look flexible and numerous and there's actually some decent experience too but the options are great.

First 11 front 3? Again as it stands I'd go Liverpool over City though. I think some underestimate just how good Salah is at winning football matches, Mane just gets better and Firmino is class and world class at his best. As a unit I feel it trumps City.

I think it’s a close run thing between City and Liverpool for the starting XI though. We can agree to disagree on that one.

Neither has the quality in depth of Chelsea (assuming Havertz signs) though.

City have the best attacking depth in the league, quite comfortably. And they’re signing Messi.

Of those offensive lists I’d personally say City’s is the strongest, they’re all proven in the PL too. Liverpool have the best front 3.

posted on 29/8/20

Liverpool have 2 world class forward and Firminho
City have everyone and hopefully Messi joins them
Comparing Chelsea’s attacking options to them is pretty ridiculous. All youngish players with plenty of potential but haven’t actually achieved anything

Really? I’d say they have (to a lesser extent) a similar challenge to Liverpool if you take Aguero and Sterling out. Those guys are their only real 20 league goal candidates.

Mahrez and Jesus (still yet to be fully convinced) are good deputies, and although Bernardo is a class player, he isn’t really what you’d call prolific.

Barring the new lad, whom do they have after that?

I also think that if you don’t have KDB and David Silva feeding them, it’s probably a different story again.

Chelsea can now see injuries to any two or even three of their forwards and have players almost as good step in.

Sorry but replacing Abraham, Willian and Pedro with Werner, Ziyech and Havertz is a big improvement.

posted on 29/8/20

I bet you have seen very little of any of them play Busby.

Werner is the only one I’d say will be getting over 15 league goals for Chelsea and even that isn’t definite as we don’t know how well he’ll adjust to the PL. Giroud is ok as a plan B but the rest are no more prolific than City’s options and on top of that not as good or as proven in the PL. Also having so many options could be an issue as spreading game time for so many will be difficult while also keeping everyone happy and playing to a good enough level. On top of that Pep is significantly better than Lampard so will most likely get more out of his players.

Big Tammy A got 15 goals. Great player.

posted on 29/8/20

Yeah he did and had a really impressive season but he won’t be their first choice striker and his chances will be limited id imagine. City’s attack has been great for years, I know they’ve lost Sane and D Silva who are big players but they’ll still have the strongest offensive squad imo.

To add to 1982’s comments above.

Some of these signings may not adapt to the premiership either.

I wish people would just stop taking stats from other leagues and think players will replicate that form in the Prem. A lot of them will not.

posted on 29/8/20

It’s so hard to know how players will adapt to a stronger, faster and more physical league. Bruno adapted incredibly well which I think was a surprise to everyone, there are many variables to consider, someone of them have nothing to do with football.

Yes definitely, just wanted to show some love for big Tammy. City comfortably have the best attack.

Indeed. Look at ADM. he had to adapt to having his house burgled and LVG sucking the life out of his game.

That’s because they don’t have the cleary brilliant starting players. But City’s subs are on the same level as Chelsea’s starting players. Also you cannot really use an attacking mid like Havertz to champion their depth and ignore De Bruyne.

City have the best group of attackers in the league. I’d put Chelsea second behind them as Liverpool haven’t got much beyond the first 11. But I really cannot see how Chelsea have all of a sudden made their attack better than City’s.

Havertz looks like he can play just about anywhere in front of DMs, including up top.

And it’s semantics and it sort of depends on the setups I guess, but we were talking about which were the strongest groups of forwards rather than attacking units.

City are usually playing 4-1-2-3, and I expect Chelsea to play 4-2-3-1 most weeks. Havertz I’d be starting at number ten, with Pulisic and CHO either side and Werner up top. Looks pretty formidable to me. We’ll have to see how they all play together of course.

But being able to lose three forwards and still having the likes of Giroud, Abraham and Ziyech to rotate in is pretty useful.

Liverpool would be utterly facked if they lost their three starting forwards.

Hudson Odoi is still hugely unproven isn’t he or have I missed something? Pulisic has looked really promising but I haven’t seen much consistency yet. Isn’t Ziyech similar in style to Mahrez but as yet proven in the PL?

I reckon they’ll have to ease Havertz, he seems quite slight and is young.

Not a huge number of starts last season, but a goal/assist every 120 mins or so in the PL, CL and FA Cup largely off the bench.

Looks like a real player to me. Skilful and obscenely quick over five/ten yards.

Probably not.

However Werner is very very comfortable (and sometimes better) and playing on the left wing, and Pulisic is out for the start of the season.

So don’t be surprised to see Tammy flanked by Ziyech and Werner to begin the season, then it’s up to him to be good enough to take his chances.

Havertz will start if he signs up, I have no doubt. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see him start up top.

12 goals and assists in 11 games there last season. Mad numbers, even for the Bundesliga.

Chelsea now apparently after Schick from Roma (because apparently they won’t have enough forwards ) and chasing the giant Rennes ‘keeper Mendy.

Whether it works or not, it’s some epic statement of intent this.

posted on 29/8/20

Havertz won’t start the season. It’s in like 15 days? He’ll have to quarantine, and he hasn’t trained with them yet.

I’ll eat my hat if he does.

But yes he’s an outrageous talent and I’m very jealous Chelsea have got him.

The one i really really want to see come to the premier league though (and hopefully with Liverpool!) is Jonathan Ikone. That man is insane.
