Wolves v Fulham preview [LIVE]

I do think it’s going to be interesting this season to see how much confidence Nuno will place in the talented young players on the fringes of the first team. No good throwing them in on mass because that would inevitably lead to the team getting worse before it got better. But he shown with Neto, Vinagre and Gibbs White that he will give them chances while still very young then it’s up to them to prove their worth.
Silva, Vitinha, Hoever, Shabani, Kilman, Marques plus others on the young side clearly have ability, just a matter of how quickly they can start to make a mark when they get a chance in the big boys league

I thought Zinchenko looked very good at times for City last season and I’m surprised they aren’t persevering with him

I wouldn't be surprised if we are done this window.
Despite the arrival of Semedo that got the blood flowing briefly I thin.it would constitute another missed opportunity.

Reading elsewhere that we have only broken even with ins and outs at this stage this window, no idea if that is true but if it is then how are we supposed to break into the top six?

I think Zinchenko would be a good fit for our system. He is basically a midfielder who can play left back.

He got caught out defensively a few times last season, but at wing back that is less of a concern with the extra cover from a centre back.

The longer this goes on for, the more I think it will fizzle out with no signings.

Is that break even calculation a straight comparison of transfer fees or does it take in to account all the shenanigans with staged payments due to us and from us to others? No one is party to that detail so whoever is saying it is guessing I'd wager.

Yeah that installments and amortization thing leaves it all quite hard to follow. Would seem we have money to spare though or at least we should have.

I don’t think staged payments is a factor really. The transfer fee has to be paid sooner or later so in accounting terms it’s money spent on the day the player signs. Cash flow isn’t a factor in FFP

The thing that's been troubling me a bit about this window and the strategy is that when you look around at the brightest talents in the game today, almost all of them have not stayed with the club that gave them their break. They've needed a couple of moves before establishing themselves at the top. Salah, DeBruyne, Sterling, Griezman & Ronaldo even are good examples. I just wonder whether we will get to see the best of Silva, Hoever, Vitinha (should he sign) and Neto or just a glimpse of what they will become. In time we want to be that club that the best players choose to come to in their prime to win trophies and cement their careers. However we seem to be on a slower trajectory to that than say Man City were.

Call me cynical but I don't think our intention is to see the best of them but more to cash in when/if they hit peak value.

I think how long the players stay will depend on whether Wolves can remain, or grow further, into a club that good players want to play for. As far as Fosun are concerned there’s far more money to be made from the club remaining at the top end of the Premier League and hopefully in Europe, than there would ever be just through transfers as a buying and selling club. Selling Jota for a huge profit has only given us the money to invest in other players, and if a consequence was us dropping down the league a few places then that wouldn’t be good business at all.

And Man City were starting from a different place than we were. They had been in the premier league and were a big club when the new owners took over, although not successful. We have spent most of the last 30 years outside the top flight and were relatively a much smaller club

Great to see that Coady has signed a new 5 year contract. A player that has grown from an average championship player to one of our most consistent in the top flight, an international and a great captain.

Didn’t see that coming 3 years ago

That’s Fosun’s modus operandi. We know that, and it’s that that has made us what we are now. It may change eventually, but for the moment it is bringing us the best young talent. I’m not complaining.

It’s only numbers at the end of the day. Numbers are juggled anyway.

If the policy of the club was to cash in when players hit peak value I can’t see why Jimenez and Traore are still on the payroll

posted on 30/9/20

They are not going to do it with every player at the same time are they? But we have just seen them do it with one who is possibly not at his peak yet.

I don't have a problem with the strategy to a point, we have to generate money somehow given ffp handcuffs us spending when we want. But we can't take our eye off the here and now.

Another goal for Calvert Lewis tonight. The guy’s on fire

Another hat trick for Calvert Lewin. And there was me questioning whether Everton would score enough goals this season

Everton are in good shape and i would be surprised if we finish above them this season.

Yeah, all of a sudden my other half is interested in football again. My son will be absolutely gutted if the toffees finish above us, he's been dishing it out these last two seasons, he's gonna be getting some back this time I fear.

Now we’ve signed Semedo and Hoever, Wolves will be sending Oskar Buur out on loan to get more senior experience

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we finished top 8 this season at the moment. I think top 10 will be a fight.

Just read that the domestic transfer window is open until 16th October for transfers between EFL & PL clubs, which may allow clubs to raid Championship clubs for experienced players and pick off the best talent in the lower divisions.

Cant think of many EFL players Id like to see at Wolves, Josh King maybe, but wouldn't be in my top five choices for a back up striker.

posted on 1/10/20

Josh King could play centrally, out wide and as part if a front two. He wouldn't be a bad signing in my opinion.

King of Bournemouth, Sarr of Watford and Pukki of Norwich probably the three most buyable forwards left at the relegated clubs
