ive actually just left the reebok shop, i went in looking for some rose tinted glasses but they had sold out...
just a thought...
im NOT i repeat NOT wanting coyle sacked, im not even close to it yet, however, the view that some fans of our current prediciment are blinkerd due to the fact it is owen coyle...
what if megson was (god forbid) in charge now...would the fans be turning on the manager?
i think its a valid argument...
You have a good point there RR .... any other manager, with such a poor record (as the stats in this thread highlight) would likely have been vilified by now. But Owen's ' magic cloak of invisibility ' as far as having his position queried won't last for ever. There's quite a bit of time for him to turn it around of course, and he is a likeable chap in many respects .... but without points on the board, even he won't be exempt from the chop, if our Prem League status starts to look seriously threatened ......
what if megson was (god forbid) in charge now...would the fans be turning on the manager?
--
No, simply because it ISN'T Megson, we all know Coyle is a good manager and has the ability to turn it around.
Do some of you go and watch Bolton for enjoyment, because some of the posts suggest otherwise.
Yeah.
We clearly aren't playing well, but I still feel it is a little unfair to moan about Coyle just yet.
We have had a horrendous injury list, 2 or 3 main played have been out since we started dropping points (Ricketts and Holden).
Those players are due to return soon.
I really think we are better judging Coyle from after the Chelsea game against teams in and around us. I still fully believe that we can beat the likes of Villa, Sunderland, Everton and Fulham - all top half teams.
I for one am looking forward to October. This is when our season properly starts
Injury list, terrible fixtues, shocking defence, not scoring enough goals, conceding too many, poor referee's. My personal veiw is that the performances that have been poor i find hard to take, i haven't seen one game this season where i thought we were unlucky or deserved something (except QPR of course), and with Chelsea up on sunday i don't expect much there, so the outlook's not good, but if thing are to improve it should be after that (I hope!!).
We have had a horrendous injury list, 2 or 3 main played have been out since we started dropping points (Ricketts and Holden).
Those players are due to return soon.
...
Not too sure about that. Depends how you class 'soon' I suppose.
Holden is 6 weeks, okay, Ricketts maybe a bit longer but they well be back soon enough to have a big influence on our final league position
If ricketts read this board he would not believe his eyes. He would probably want to stay injured cause the longer he is out the better he gets. Some people needto get their heads out the clouds. Ricketts never has been or never will be a great player. He is only slightly better than steinsson and is just about decent cover across the back. If anyone is expecting him to cone back and shore up or defence you know nothing about football. If Cahill was out I could understand but Jesus if fans of other teamscould see how desperate those statements are they would be throwing money at us to go down.
Let's be honest coyle has had nearly two years. First year was a great success but the second has been dire. Ok we got to a semi final but with hindsight I would rather have not. I always think you should judge a manager more on their second year than first as they have brought in their own players by then. Coyles buys have been worse than megsons. Petrov may save himself if he continues to play as well this season but all last season besides united at home he was awful. Eagles looks poor. Mears can't judge. NRC may be good but not seen anything special. Robbie Blake waste of time. Can't judge ngog. Tuncay looks far too lightweight and has shown little yet. The loan signings of wilshire and sturridge were easy as they were both known to be good players just need game time. Holden has been class yet so has Cahill.
All in all I like coyle but he has disappointed in the last 12 months. Too many average prem managers like pulis have found him out and he has had no answer. It is worrying cause at any other club coyle would be worrying about his job after our last 12 months and any other manager at bolton would.
I hope our Rose tinted good nature does not do the club lasting damage.
It's now down to Coyle to adapt the squad he has assembled and deal with the injuries and suspensions. He should be prepared for this unfortunate situation and built in a contingency plan with the personnel available.
It's time to see how our young, promising manager deals with the cards he has been dealt and show his true worth.
I believe this to be his first real test as manager of our club.
Finlay your right and it is not as if he has not had all summer to plan for no Holden.
Petrov er, some of your arguments are getting desparate, if the signings of Wilshere and Sturridge were so easy, why didn't any other clubs make approaches for them?
Ricketts is a key member of our sqaud and IMO our weakest area is out wide i.e. were Ricketts plays as Steinsson is caught making rash challenges and out of position far too often.
Why don't you put some trust in our manager and let him manage rather than make premature judgements on our new signings?
Think about this we chase swp all summer offering lower money claiming poverty. Then we knock back any offer for Cahill and let him potentially leave on a free.
Petrov er
you have a superb point the blinkers are so on for the injurys lets look at facts.
Ricketts- is not that good a player under Coyle he only played when Steinsson was injured 90% of fans before he was injured could not stand the guy and thought he was an average player at best, Suddenly he is injured and he becomes world class.
Holden- Yes is a very good player but in nigh on 2 years he has played just 28 league games he is a walking sick note and i do wonder if he will have an impact pre Christmas now.
Lee- is out for the season end of story and from December last year has looked tired and not the player he was.
Mears- Championship player not really tested in the Prem apart from 1 season with Burnley who were relegated after conceding a lot of goals.
Alonso- untested player who has played 2-3 games in 12 months so not a regular first team starter.
The injury list is bad but apart from Lee and Holden who would really walk back into our first team?
The fans are looking for excuses so they don't turn on Coyle and the injury list is not the way to go, Poor form and a lack of ideas in playing tatics are the reason.
Since Coyle took over the fans are happier as he is a really good bloke but as some have said he is an amazing manager we cannot say that he did well to get Burnley up but jumped ship when things turned sour there, He has done very well for us but since December last year we have looked very average 6 wins this year says it all, And i agree if Megson had got 20 points from 72 and delivered 6 wins in 24 games he would have been given the chop by now but the fans are buying into the injury problems, Apart from 45 minutes against QPR i have not really seen much this season that says we are going to turn the corner and with the upcoming fixtures
Wigan (away) 1-1 last season
Sunderland (home) 1-2 last season
Swansea (away) no fixture
Stoke (home) 2-1 last season
WBA (away) 1-1 last season
Everton (home) 2-0 last season
Tottenham (away) 1-2 last season
Villa (home) 3-2 last season
Fulham (away) 0-3 last season
Blackburn (away) 0-1 last season
Newcastle (home) 5-1 last season
Wolves (home) 1-0 last season
We face the teams around us after Chelsea now so this is Coyle's chance to show us he can change things around but we must remember some of those teams we may have beat or got points from last season have improved this season and some changed managers and a few victorys came on our good run of form so we may not get the results we did last time.
Think about this we chase swp all summer offering lower money claiming poverty. Then we knock back any offer for Cahill and let him potentially leave on a free.
--
We were not claiming poverty, we said we wouldn't pay that sort of wage.
I ask you again, put some trust in our management, I bet your one of those people who sits at the Reebok complaining about anything.
the form SWP is in he would have been a shrewd signing now don't you think?
Moses really ricketts is not that good. Have you seen him play. Not saying he is bad just not going to make any significant difference. In terms of sturridge and wilshire I am sure other teams offered them a chance it's just we could offer more first team football.
In terms of desperation your trust in coyle is based on three things. Bad fixtures, injuries and blind ignorance to the facts. Soon the fixture run will be over and eventually nemanja ricketts will be back then if we are still playing as we have since jan then your blind faith is going to be tested.
the form SWP is in he would have been a shrewd signing now don't you think?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? he hadn't performed well for a couple of seasons and wanted wages that would smash our wage structure, it would have been a very risky and costly transfer for us.
better than 3 points from 18 and the worst defence in the league?
Clueless going forward to boot if we had tried that bit harder being we were linked since early July we could have tied something up that suited us ie a goals bonus and assist options.

Your arguement about Sturridge and Wilshere is based on uneducated guesswork, and your telling me to use facts?
I am not denying that we are in a bad spell but be straight, Coyle has done wonders for the club, keeping us up, getting us to a Semi final and last season, no worries of relegation for once !!!
Bwfc we have missed out on some good signings this summer.

NRC and tuncay have prem experience so not the great window prophesised.
But we did finish just 8 points of the drop zone, It was a good run early doors that kept us up, We only got injuries end of March to Holden yet we had only won 3 games since the turn of the year in 15 attempts with Holden in the side?
Injuries are not to blame nor is a bad run of fixtures it is simply Coyle is running out of ideas, We never had a good record versus the big boys but we never got our butts handed to us like we have this season.
Clueless going forward to boot if we had tried that bit harder being we were linked since early July we could have tied something up that suited us ie a goals bonus and assist options.
