I bet you be the first to moan should the uk suffered a serious cyber attack. How they never spend enough on this kind of defence.

We could quite easily spend all this and still suffer though.
Plus we already spend loads of money in comparison to other nations on cyber security.

To answer the original question.
Members of the armed forces deserved to be equipped with the right equipment and resources to do there jobs. For too long that's not happened sufficiently. Don't use party political nonsense and distractions to make your point.
Now take a swipe at PPE contracts and cross rail projects etc..... and i'll back your point. Squaddies have been underfunded for far too long.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you actually that naive to believe that this money is going to help properly equip normal soldiers?
It's going directly into the pockets of organisations like BAE systems. So they can produce state of the art missiles, which are more proficient in killing other poor people half the world away.

I see the old 'they still have mobile phones' argument is out again.
Let me just say one thing.
One of the foodbanks I have given to has guidance for people and one bit of guidance is to avoid things like Pot Noodles because not everyone using the food bank has access to a kettle.
Don't tell me those people in genuine need have big TVs and mobile phones and don't tell me that they should be punished because there might be some people who take the mick. It's disgusting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There might be some people who take the mick? Come on Winston, I think it’s a little more certain than some people who might take the mick.
The tax payers already pay a lot for childcare every year and there has been a plethora of government schemes t help people this year with the pandemic.

Thirdly, even if these instances do exist (of parents buying themselves Phones etc instead). It’s worth having a blanket policy to feed all starving kids to capture all those hardworking families that are deserving and rely on it (in which there are countless cases of) even if a few exploiting the system do slip in. If we can let all the government buddies exploit and cheat the system then a working class family having a newer smartphone isn’t an issue

Who are these starving kids? The uk has one of the highest obesity rates in Europe. Jesus how did kids cope in the 40s and 50s.

The funding obviously goes into the pockets of organisations who supply the kit - i think that's pretty obvious. They charge excessively for the privilege for sure.... replicate that across most Govt contracts (and yes I do know what i'm talking about at this point).

I think that there should be some form of weekly payment system to cover the cost of caring for a child. Oh wait...
There has to be a limit somewhere mate otherwise we just turn into a socialist mess. We spend a lot on welfare in this country, an awful lot. Yet the government spend £16bn on defence and this thread is all up in arms because of Marcus Rashford’s cause for school meals. It’s ridiculous and without perspective, pretty typical on here though.
If people want socialism then they can go and try it out and see if they still like it.
Non exchangeable, protected vouchers should be used to child care. £93 per month is more than enough to feed a child and during times such as the pandemic, the banks and government have set up a load of schemes to make it possible for people to delay/defer payments so that food definitely stays on the table.
I have seen what they get upto in the army. I have seen Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now and Platoon and all the soldiers are SMOKING and TAKING DRUGS and drinking ALCOHOL. Is it really best use of our public money to be spending £16m on some school drop-outs getting DRUNK and HIGH?

Well the total overpayments/fraud per year (that the government of aware of) is around £4bn and I cannot stress this enough - THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS AWARE OF. So this figure could easily be tripled to say the least. Even then, that’s £4bn right there.
The government was defrauded out of £3bn through the furlough scheme.
VOF’s point may be exaggerated but in terms of poor money management and then asking for more money from the rest of us? Yeah I think that goes on a fair bit.
If my child was “starving” as some of you say, then you can bet your bottom dollar I would be going without things like a mobile for starters let alone flat screen TVs, Netflix etc and fast food/takeaways.

There is a difference to rather it being spent on military and crying about it like a bunch of babies acting like this government doesn’t spend an absolute fortune on welfare nor done an awful lot to help people during this pandemic.
Furlough alone was £14bn a month. So yeah I’m not gonna cry about £16bn on defence.
No perspective whatsoever.

Funny how the parents of these kids, not all, but certainly a good proportion, never miss out on the latest phones, TV's and alcohol/drugs.
It's always someone else to blame though i find. Never there prioritising.

Absolute nonsense

It's not though. It's just many don't like the thought of it.

It is. It's utter bollox and you're tlaking sh!t based on nothing but a bigoted perception. If I cba I'd go through the numbers with you but I can't.

Some people are so thick. We are in the middle of a Pandemic, hundred of thousands of jobs have been lost, the economy is getting worse, of course parents can't feed their kids all the time currently.
You'd rather 16billion be spent on the military? Give your head a wobble.

What is it based on?
We had an MP lie about people giving away food voucher for drugs yet nothing to actually back it up.
Can you back up your statement? What proof are there that a large number of people are doing this? What is the percentage?

Yep, this. And yes, maybe my point is exaggerating a bit, but i stand by the underlying sentiment.

What is the amount on fraud and what is on overpayment? Whose fault was the over payment?

There is a difference to rather it being spent on military and crying about it like a bunch of babies acting like this government doesn’t spend an absolute fortune on welfare nor done an awful lot to help people during this pandemic.
Furlough alone was £14bn a month. So yeah I’m not gonna cry about £16bn on defence.
No perspective whatsoever.

Okay, but given the situation we're in, I can't possibly agree with you that this should just be removed for everyone.
