Klopp wants to bench Firmino. Why would he speak personally to Werner if that wasn't the case? He wasn't trying to sign werner to sit on the bench was he.

posted on 8/12/20

Or did he want Mane or Salah to sit on the bench instead?

Werner didn't sign because Klopp himself said he wasn't guaranteed to start games, which is just one of the reasons why it broke down.

So actually yes, he was going to sign Werner to be an important part of the squad.

So I don't think he wants to bench Firmino, hence why he hasn't.

He isn't a squad player at Chelsea. He's our best striker. I literally posted a video where Patrice Evra says this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is he on the bench then? You don't put your best player on the bench when he is available.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was he on the bench against Leeds? Or against Sevilla?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
2 games...

May I add he's played 126 minutes in 6 PL games this season.Does that not define squad player to you?

Chelsea's best striker would have that little game time this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because just like last season, Lampard started with the former academy player Abraham but Giroud has once again played his way into the team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets see how long he lasts in the team then.

The fact that the best manager (arguably) in the world rates and plays Firmino says enough.
Talking of Giroud. He didn't score one goal when France won the world cup but played a big part. Much like Firmino does for Liverpool.

It's well accepted among anyone that knows anything about Chelsea that Fat Frank has treated Giroud terribly. Ask any Chelsea fan.

Mourinho doesn't play Firmino. He has a much better striker in Harry Kane.

You think Klopp would sign Werner and bench him? No way

He wanted Werner to replace Firmino. And he signed Jota, who isn't as good as Werner, hoping he'd be capable of doing the same, which he is. Salah Jota Mane is Liverpool's best attack system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If rumours are anywhere close to being true that's a large part of why he didn't sign. Werner wanted parity with Salah's wages (i.e. more than VVD/Mane) and guarantees of playing time; Liverpool wouldn't give either. If Werner replaced Firmino then we'd need to change the way we attack and we'd arguably get less from Salah and Mane. Not sure why you think he'd want to do that.

I'd have liked Werner but Chelsea is the better move for him, he can be the main man there.

Klopp is on record many times over with his admiration for Firmino. If we played the CL final tomorrow then he'd start Firmino with Salah and Mane for sure.

Look beyond the stats every now and again Wahl, it'll help you appreciate different types of players.

Yes, that as well. I said my point was just one of the reasons.

It's not that they necessarily "couldn't afford" Werner, more that they wouldn't for what he was going to be, a player that was going to give competition to the squad.

His price, wages and squad status made signing Werner not worthwhile.

Ignores what Point? That Giroud didn't score at the world cup? OK, cool. He's France's second highest goalscorer of all time, he clearly scores goals regularly for France.

I think it's naive to think that Klopp would be naive enough to think he could take one of the world's top strikers and ask him to come be a rotation player.

Klopp would never be stupid enough to talk to Werner like this. He wanted Werner to replace Firmino. Do you think there's any Scenario where Klopp would think he could ask Werner to come be a rotation player and and Werner would be "Yeah sure fine, that sounds great"?

You know what, furrrk it I'm wrong. I must not be a massive idiot to be unable to see how amazing Roberto Drogoba Rooney Eto'o Lewandoski Kane Suarez Firmino is and to understand how it doesn't matter that he's a striker who scores less goals than many defenders because the fact that he creates 1.44 chances a game is what makes him the best striker in the world and I'm just a absolute furrrking moron for not understanding anything about football and not being blown away by the magnificience of Firmino's skill and talent.

Wow, thank you so much for enlightening me. I think I'm going to go watch some Firmino compilation of goals, I mean chances created, and go appreciate his brilliaince and genius. Thank you sincerely.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not worthless but they don't tell the whole story.

Drogba is considered one of the best strikers in EPL history, had some very modest scoring seasons.

Bergkamp is one of the best footballers we've seen, would you judge him by his goalscoring? Well you probably would, but most people wouldn't.

No there wouldn't be a scenario of this, hence why it didn't happen? Klopp and Liverpool couldn't offer Werner the wages and playing time he wanted, therefore they didn't sign him. That's why Werner said he would go elsewhere as he wanted guaranteed game time, which Liverpool did not offer.

The point I and others are making is, you can contribute and be a key cog in a team even if you don't score.
IMO you can't compare Firmino and Giroud by numbers.
