A banana skin game this one I think. Although I feel we have the better squad there are two things niggling in the back of my mind:
Villa 7 Liverpool 2
Liverpool 4 Wolves 0
Quite honestly I would take a draw now and just hope for a much improved performance.
Yes Gem, and I've just noticed that, though we have a 2 point advantage over Villa, their goal difference is +11 compared to ours. 9 of that difference came from our respective Liverpool games.
We all know, however, that that counts for nothing over 90 minutes. That said, I'm expecting 1-1.
Villa are better than they were last season but I still think it’s the case that if you can keep Grealish out of the game they are quite poor
Looking forward to watching Grealish and playing the 'Count the dives' game
Don’t think there are many if any players in the Premier League that dive more than Grealish. Yet I know a lot of Villa fans and they get so offended when that is suggested
with Chelsea and Spurs soon we must surely be looking to win this, Villa have one 5 out of 9 which is very impressive, may have a bet on Neves to score assuming he starts
Patricio
Coady
Saiss
Semedo
Marcel
Dendoncker
Moutinho
Adama
Neto
Podence
Silva
Bench
Ruddy
Kilman
Boly
Neves
Vinha
Ait Nouri
Otasowie
Ok no bet on Neves, maybe Pod , team looks fine for this game
Think that’s the right selection for the game. Really hope Silva looks the part
So 4:2:3:1 with Boly dropped to the bench. Didn't see that coming. Maybe Nuno thinks that Saiss is a bit more mobile than Boly and more able to keep Grealish quiet. Looks more like a nailed on Grealish dive following a Saiss tackle and resulting in a penalty to me!
Two players who need to step up to the plate today are Semedo and Silva
However Grealish is so clever, as soon as he feels a opponent near him he works out how to get the foul.
But it pi****es mew off.
B******d.
Boly dropped, that's a first, he could be forgiven for thinking he's paid the price for Coady's mistakes. Looks like a back four again. And a chance for Silva to show what he can do with players around him. An important game to get points from this.
I think Grealish is a decent player and would benefit from getting out of Witton to a club where he isn't the star of a one man show. He needs a strong manager that can get him playing in a team system and cutting out the drama. I doubt any of that will happen though because he's a bit of a tw@ when all's said and done.
Interesting selection. Not sure I'm convinced by the choice to play two midfielders as centre backs in a back 4, but we'll see how they goes. Happy with the midfield and attacking line up though.
Have always felt Boly has looked more comfortable on the left of the defence and he seems to have paid the penalty for not doing as well on the right
I confess I did not look close enough to spot Boly missing , will not be a permanent thing that is for sure
Thought we might have seen Corbeanu on the bench today as an alternative to Silva
Not sure what Kilman has done wrong to be honest.
The worry for me today with this line up is the lack of pace and Watkins running the channels in behind. Those runs have been where we have struggled this season both against West Ham with Antonio and Liverpool with Salah and Mane doing it from wide positions.
Less than convincing response by Nuno to the question what does Silva bring !
