Just to highlight the point that I made above, Nuno was appointed on 31st May 2017. The last game of the 2016/17 season was home game against Preston. The squad for that game was
Harry Burgoyne
Andy Lonergan
Danny Batth
Kortney Hause
Silvio
Conner Coady
Dominic Iorfa
Richard Stearman
Romain Saiss
Dave Edwards
George Saville
Jordan Graham
Lee Evans
Andi Weimann
Nouha Dicko
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson
Bright Enobakhare
Joe Mason
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have to remember that Costa & Cavaleiro were part of the squad too. I know Costa was injured at that time but not sure about Cav, I guess he must have been crocked as well, not even Lambert could have left him out of that squad surely?
I'd forgotten about Silvio, tidy player in the handfull of games he played but that own goal at home against Leeds

Bodvarsson scored the other day i think, at Millwall now i believe where Jed Wallace now runs the show.
Some of those guys have fallen off a cliff though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
that squad should put next to every posters keyboard as a reminder to where we were before nuno
Worth noting that since leaving Wolves, Andy Lonergan now has a UEFA Super Cup, FIFA World Club Cup and Premier League winners medal.
UEFA Super Cup - Appearances 0
FIFA World Club Cup - Appearances 0
Premier League 2019-2020 - Appearances 0
To be perfectly frank mate I'm a good enough goalkeeper to sit on the bench as No 3 keeper and collect medals
Lonergan now plays for Stoke which is his level. And by the way he also has zero appearances for them.
I know. Hence the laughing emoji.
Lonergan has had loads of praise though from Liverpool for the impact he had helping the development of their younger goalkeepers. I read an article a while back about the role of a third choice goalkeeper at the big clubs and it is more involved than you think in the day to day stuff between games. It's the reason that the big clubs tend to go for someone with loads of experience to fill that role.

Nuno has to take credit for what he and his back room staff have done since he took over on July 1st 2017.
There were 45 players at the club, but he only registered 26 in that first season. Most of the 19 not in the squad were either sold or loaned out.
His first named team that won 1-0 against Middlesbro was:-
Ruddy, Douglas, Coady, Miranda, Boly, Doherty, Neves, Saiss, Jota, Bonatini, Enobakhare. Subs were Norris, Batth, Bennett, Edwards, Ronan, Graham, Dicko.
The other 9 squad members were MGW, Hause, Vinagre, Ofosu-Ayeh, N'Diaye, Cavaliero, Costa, Afobe, Mir.
Now in 2020 and his 4th season with us, only 5 of that 45 he first had at the club, still remain.
Promotion, 7th, 7th and ?.
What a transformation. Hat's off to all the coaching staff.

Serious? Lambert dropped Cavaleiro and played Saville out wide once or twice. He also played Edwards and Coady and basically anybody else in midfield ahead of Saiss
When is the pre-match thread going up Gem? We need to all start disagreeing on how we set up against Burnley.

Straight after the Burnley game tonight pal
What's the news on Donk anyway?
Not heard a dicky bird on Donc or Boly
Quite happy to see Boly drop to the bench for Kilman if we play a three but more important if we play that three is that we play Ait-Nouri and not Marcal who if he plays makes it basically a back four anyway.
Would love to see Hoever play for Semedo as well but gonna be hard to drop him given the hugely over inflated fee we paid.
