Trossard and havertz the only attacking players on the pitch

posted 4 hours, 3 minutes ago

Anyway it was red. Saliba just had a little dip in form. The problem is that without Martinelli we can't counter now. Should have taken off Trossard who has been diabolical.

Was Howard Webb talking to VAR?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why did Howard Webb talk to his earpiece during the sending off?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was wondering about that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we all know why.

The high bar seems to be lowered when a certain team is on the pitch!!

Ref saw the incident, thought it warranted a yellow card

WTF VAR getting involved for is utterly ridiculous -

THE REF HAD ALREADY MADE THE CAL
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same for Kudus this afternoon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WRONG - the ref didn't see Kudus hit Sarr. That was the replay they showed the ref that made his mind up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ref is in constant dialogue with VAR during decisions like this. He would have asked them to check it. The decision was wrong as I previously stated, but the process was right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, refs do not ask VAR to check. That is totally against procedure and simply does not happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Will VAR review incidents where a yellow card is shown?
A direct red-card incident is one of the four match-changing situations where the VAR may intervene for “clear and obvious errors” or “serious missed incidents”.

If the VAR feels the referee has made a clear and obvious error in only cautioning a player, rather than sending him off, they can advise the referee to watch the incident again in the Referee Review Area."

Wasn't a clear and obvious error so DJ is right

Even at HT the commentary are emphasing that it "was denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity"

What incidents does the VAR check?
VAR will be used only for “clear and obvious errors” or “serious missed incidents” in four match-changing situations: goals; penalty decisions; direct red-card incidents; and mistaken identity.

Direct red card incident.

posted 3 hours, 59 minutes ago

Would rather a 1 on 1 with the GK and potentially down a goal than down to 10.

S|-|ite from Trossard and stoopid from Saliba.

Was it actually a clear and obvious error to give a yellow card though? Basically on the halfway line.

posted 3 hours, 59 minutes ago

Merino looks so far of pace, it's ridiculous. The problem is Trossard is having a mare. arteta needs to solve this. The ref will be under pressure so get some attacks going and win a pen

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lol....a "professional foul" in the middle of the pitch when a player is running through on goal has always been seen as denying a clear goalscoring opportunity (and consequently, a red card offense). It's been like this for longer than I've been alive. Why are you guys acting like you suddenly don't understand the rules of football and acting so blinkered?

posted 3 hours, 57 minutes ago

Never understood why we are starting with 3 defensive MF players

The team is just stacked with defensive players

posted 3 hours, 57 minutes ago

Same ref, told Gibbs-White he clearly got the ball - he made the shape of the ball with his hands

The 4th official then whispered in his ear, he didn’t even check the screen - preceded to get his Red out and send him off

Diabolical

The 4th Official SHOULD NOT be allowed to intervene and change the refs mind, especially when the ref saw the incident for himself and made the call

posted 3 hours, 57 minutes ago

Ah ok it's a letter of the law day today

Spirit of the law will be back when it's us on the halfway line

posted 3 hours, 56 minutes ago

It is a red. Saliba just came back from the International break with his head scrambled. Probably read too many reports from his France performance.

What

posted 3 hours, 56 minutes ago

It's done now. They question is, can we create anything let alone score a goal

Trossard and havertz are the attackers
