It is a red. Saliba just came back from the International break with his head scrambled. Probably read too many reports from his France performance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No need to grab. In the past he would trust himself to get back.

Won’t be surprised if we approach this like Spurs/City and let them have the ball

Bats knew AGAIN.

Put on Martinelli, take off Trossard. Route one to Havertz and try get a corner.

Would rather a 1 on 1 with the GK and potentially down a goal than down to 10.

S|-|ite from Trossard and stoopid from Saliba.

Was it actually a clear and obvious error to give a yellow card though? Basically on the halfway line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. It was a "clear and obvious error" not to issue a red for what was clearly a red card offense. The ref probably needed to review the positioning of other Arsenal players to see if there was any cover for Saliba. If this was reversed and in our favour, we'd all be fully on board with the decision.

It's pretty obvious that Sky aren't allowed to disagree with refs. It honestly might be contractual at this point.

I think to put that on the France stuff is creating a lot of narrative. I think he just instinctively had a little pull thinking it'd be inconsequential cos he'd have it covered anyway.

We seem to approach every away game, regardless of the opposition, with this defensive style now

The mistake he made for France was just that. He tried to get back was a bit slow, slipped and gave away a pen.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't clear and obvious, it is a subjective call and there was enough in it to justify a yellow as there was for a red. The on-field call was made with clear view of the incident and there is a very high bar for VAR intervention.
If the ref had given red it should have stood, if he gave a yellow it should have stood.

Same ref, told Gibbs-White he clearly got the ball - he made the shape of the ball with his hands

The 4th official then whispered in his ear, he didn’t even check the screen - preceded to get his Red out and send him off

Diabolical

The 4th Official SHOULD NOT be allowed to intervene and change the refs mind, especially when the ref saw the incident for himself and made the call

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever happened with Gibbs White or whoever is completely irrelevant to the fact that everything was textbook and spot on in the decision to send Saliba off. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Tired of this silly persecution complex.

I think they were completely different. Slipping in the pen area in a way that's not your fault vs making a foul on the halfway line?

As usual DJ thinking similar to me.

The Sky presenter even mentioned Ben White coming across and the trajectory of the ball heading towards him.

Saliba has this way of defending where he allows players to run of him and then catches up. Ever since he has started for France I think he is getting different coaching. That screws up youngsters especially after mistakes.

Merino is completely off pace. Declan Rice needs to stay back to cover if he loses possession.

Except only offside calls for you count as "clear and obvious", I'd say the ref issuing a yellow in that case was a "clear and obvious error". His review falls well within the defined parameters of "clear and obvious" errors.
