I would bat Foakes at 7..3 seamers and spinner. with Stokes you get a 5th bowler. You shouldnt need more than 4/5 bowlers in England.
Problem with Foakes at 7 is he is quite defensive and our tail is pretty rubbish so he's often left stranded.

They've all been defensive...that's why we are where we are
Hes a wicket keeper. what you want?? lets see how Pant deals in England batting at 6. Anderson loves to bowl at left handers so does Broad.
Bottom line is England are just a poor side, in anything other than overcast favourable English conditions.

That's harsh and I'd say I don't agree. Won in South Africa and Sri Lanka recently convincingly.
I think a fair criticism would be that we don't tend to do too well in India and Australia. The 2 best test nations in the world.

No point trying to make logical arguments with Sandy.
The five match series v India will be a good gauge of where this team is. Given they turned over Australia away, beating them over 5 matches would be a great achievement.
Axar has more dots than a polka shirt convention
This comment is exactly why England will always be shiiite playing in the subcontinent (the SL series before this I'm not counting - SL are worse than Bangladesh at the moment, couldn't name a single player).
Vaughan:
Rishabh Pant's keeping has greatly improved but I still think he has a lot of work to do. He's not as natural as Ben Foakes for example. Can Pant keep against the swinging ball in England?
Everything goes back to the "swinging ball in England". Why is it even being compared to it? Since when is playing in England the pinnacle of cricket? This is why India produce spin tracks. Long may it continue.
Never should have dropped Lawrence for Bairstow last match
England have won in India twice in the last 10 years havent they??
Lets see how India do in England which they have never won a 4/5 test series.

The truth is, it's very rare for England, Australia and India to lose at home.
Be interested to see how India manage to get 3 seamers and 2 spinners into their 11 without weakening their batting..
if they go in with 3 seamers England need to be positive against their spinner..

Once.
It was a 4 match series, so I don't care. I only care about 5 match series.
lets see how India do in England. the pitches won't spin (unless the English groundsman help India and make the wicket dry)

Shane Warne might have something to say about that
Does anyone remember Botham being hit on the helmet by a bouncer, losing his bearings, doing a pirouette, then discovering he’s in imminent danger of falling into the wickets tries to hurdle the stumps and clips off a bail with his pads?
So the India spinners are has good has warne??
Anyway the aussies have a good batting line up. They scored enough runs to make it easier for Warne.
